Editing Mistake Noticed by Fans in Belly and Jeremiah Scene from The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty enthusiasts spotted what seemed to be a editing blunder in a pivotal moment between Belly and Jeremiah.

In the August 13 episode of the acclaimed Prime Video series, Belly (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) awaken together at his father’s apartment. The duo rested on an air mattress with their clothes strewn around, and that’s when keen-eyed viewers noticed Belly’s dress being slowly pulled off-camera.

“Wait…what? WHY IS THE DRESS CRAWLING AWAY,” exclaimed the caption of a clip shared on TikTok. Another viewer responded, “I had to rewind and watch three times to confirm I wasn’t imagining it.”

Some comments humorously suggested the dress was “Team Conrad” due to Belly’s mixed emotions for both Jeremiah and his brother (Chris Briney).

“It’s the ghost of Susannah trying to warn Belly against marrying Jere,” remarked another fan, referencing Jeremiah and Conrad’s late mother (Rachel Blanchard).

Others speculated that it was probably a behind-the-scenes mishap, commenting, “All I can think is a cameraman’s foot got stuck, and they’re just casually trying to move out of frame.”

Based on Jenny Han’s book series of the same title, The Summer I Turned Pretty narrates Belly’s romantic dilemma involving Conrad and Jeremiah. Alongside the main trio, audiences have also discovered more about Belly’s brother, Steven (Sean Kaufman), mother Laurel (Jackie Chung), and best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer).

Han penned a trilogy — The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You, and We’ll Always Have Summer — suggesting the show might only run for three seasons. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, hinted at aspirations for the series to extend beyond the narrative of the books.

“I will say stay tuned, but Jenny has some exciting surprises in store. We’re eagerly anticipating season 3, and she has a vision for the future,” he told Deadline in September 2023. “This show will continue to be a significant focus for us, and we absolutely plan to keep expanding it. Jenny has a fantastic vision for its direction, and we’re already working on developing complementary elements.”

However, Sanders recently dismissed the notion of a potential TSITP spinoff.

“That might have been optimistic on my part, and Jenny has remained very focused on perfecting these seasons,” he shared with Deadline in July. “We are exploring new and different avenues with Jenny right now. She’s offered some other concepts related to this.”

Sanders expressed his desire to continue collaborating with Han, 44, in some capacity.

“After the entire season is released, we’ll engage in discussions, and we’ll invite her to choose from the many ideas she’s presented,” he added. “But we’ve stepped away from those discussions for the time being.”

Meanwhile, Han hasn’t completely ruled out revisiting Cousins Beach, stating to Entertainment Weekly in June, “Never say never. If the story is there, I’m there. Inspiration often strikes.”

She acknowledged that she doesn’t have a solid concept just yet. “If I come up with an exciting idea that motivates me to continue the story, and if the cast is enthusiastic about it, then I’d be thrilled,” she elaborated. “It truly depends on whether I believe there’s more story to tell.”

She further elaborated: “Amazon Prime has been incredibly supportive of my vision, and I haven’t experienced any pressure to extend it just for the sake of doing so. It’s all about what serves the story best. Naturally, you want to conclude with satisfaction for the fans. I genuinely enjoy collaborating with this team, and that’s the core motivation. I would always welcome any opportunity to work with them, whether on this or another project. Who knows what the future may hold?

Tung, 22, also voiced her enthusiasm for potentially returning to Belly’s story in the future.

“I love collaborating with this amazing team and working with Jenny,” she shared with the outlet. “It’s a true privilege to be any part of her cinematic world, so if I am ever asked, I’m in.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty can be watched on Prime Video every Wednesday.
