Elisabeth Moss Welcomes Newborn, Shares Visit to “The Handmaid’s Tale” Set
Elisabeth Moss has shared the joyful news of welcoming her first child while recounting her experiences on the set of The Handmaid’s Tale during its concluding season.
“The only thing I can say about that is I feel incredibly fortunate for the opportunity,” said Moss, 42, to reporters at 2025 PaleyFest LA on Thursday, March 27, when asked about bringing her baby to work, via People. “That’s all there is to it. Period.”
The actress elaborated, “Many parents aren’t able to do this. So what we often say is, for any of us fortunate enough to have our children visit us at work, we always think, ‘Aren’t we lucky to be able to do this?’”
Moss revealed her pregnancy in January 2024 during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when her baby bump was already noticeable. “Are you pregnant or just an exceptionally dedicated method actor?” joked Jimmy Kimmel at the time.
Moss, known for her role as June in The Handmaid’s Tale, responded to a question, “A little of both.” (The Hulu series, inspired by Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, centers on women being assigned to men to bear children in response to declining fertility rates.)
The Mad Men alum described her pregnancy as “incredibly fortunate,” sharing that “Everything has been going really well.”
Moss has not disclosed her due date or details regarding her relationship status. She has maintained privacy regarding her love life since her breakup with Fred Armisen in 2010. Their divorce was finalized in May 2011 after less than two years of marriage.
However, her breakup did not extinguish her desire to become a mother. “I do want to be a mother,” she told Marie Claire UK in May 2018. “I like the idea of passing on the values my mother instilled in me.”
Before her child’s arrival, Moss expressed her intention to bring her newborn to the set. “I think it’ll be wonderful,” she shared with Business Insider in May 2024. “It’ll add a new perspective to life, and I’m sure that will reflect in my role as June and the show.”
She emphasized that the cast is familiar with having babies and parents on set, describing the Hulu production as a “very baby and kid-friendly environment.”
“I don’t think it’s going to be a significant adjustment for us,” Moss concluded.
