Elle Fanning and Hailey Bieber Both Rock the Same Saint Laurent Suit
Elle Fanning is channeling Hailey Bieber.
During a photocall for A Complete Unknown in London on December 16, Fanning showcased an androgynous style in the same Saint Laurent suit that Bieber, 28, famously donned in October during a date-night-cum-work party with her husband, Justin Bieber.
Fanning stars alongside Timothée Chalamet in the latest film directed by James Mangold, which centers around Bob Dylan. She takes on the role of Sylvie Russo, a former girlfriend of Dylan (played by Chalamet), who is loosely inspired by the musician’s real-life ex, the late Suze Rotolo.
When not creating jewelry or art, Rotolo was the inspiration behind many of Dylan’s iconic songs, such as “Boots of Spanish Leather.” She also notably appeared on the cover of his influential second album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
Fanning also made a bold fashion statement when she was photographed, not on Manhattan’s Jones Street like Russo for Dylan’s album cover art, but rather on the red carpet at The Curzon Mayfair, a renowned arthouse cinema in London’s West End.
Her tailored brown suit was a slight twist from the iteration originally worn by Bieber, who opted for a nearly identical version in light gray. Both actresses layered their oversized suits with classic menswear-style oxford shirts and wide-patterned ties for a vintage vibe.
While Bieber’s trousers were intentionally longer for extra flair, Fanning presented a more balanced look by cinching her pants with a black crocodile leather belt. They each grounded their wide-leg styles with sharp, pointed-toe pumps that peeked out just enough.
Adding a playful touch, Fanning secured her retro-inspired voluminous blonde curls with a single bobby pin. This choice felt apt for the leading lady, just as Bieber’s unique style included one of her signature oversized Emi Jay hair clips.
Chalamet, 28, is also pushing fashion boundaries while promoting the film, especially when he replaced his usual brown curls with a flat-ironed sandy blonde wig topped with an Old Navy beanie. This temporary makeover was an homage to Dylan, now 83, who famously sported a similar look at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, complete with a knit hat.
As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
