Elle Fanning Explains Her Motivation for Launching an OnlyFans Account
Elle Fanning recently shared her unique reason for setting up an OnlyFans account.
In an interview with People released on Friday, March 13, the 27-year-old actress disclosed that she joined the NSFW platform to prepare for her role in AppleTV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
“I did a lot of research for this role,” Fanning explained to the publication. “Of course, I use Instagram and TikTok, so I explored those platforms.”
She went on to say, “We also had to explore OnlyFans a bit. We created an account for the writer’s room, as well as for me, to understand how the website functions.”
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is a new TV series inspired by Rufi Thorpe’s bestselling novel from 2024 of the same title.
The storyline follows Margo (Fanning), who faces financial challenges after leaving college to care for her newborn. As she strives to realize her dreams of becoming a writer, Margo must rely on support from her mother and former Hooter’s waitress Shaynne Millet (Michelle Pfeiffer), as well as her father Jinx Millet (Nick Offerman).
While celebrating the show’s launch at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Texas on Thursday, March 12, showrunner Eva Anderson elaborated on how OnlyFans informed their work.
“We did a lot of research on OnlyFans with the writers, and everyone consented to it before proceeding,” she shared with People. “We were diligent about it and aimed to gather as much information as possible before we commenced.”
Fanning isn’t the only actress from Hollywood to draw inspiration from OnlyFans.
In August 2020, Bella Thorne mentioned she joined the platform for research related to a film she was working on with Sean Baker.
“It’s a feature we’re exploring as I engage with it firsthand,” Thorne, 28, stated to the Los Angeles Times. “What are the intricacies? What impact does a platform like this have on its users? How does your life intersect with the world of OnlyFans? … How can it create transformative experiences — both positive and negative? How far are you prepared to go, and how far do you aspire to go? OnlyFans could alter your life — if you allow it.”
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is set to premiere on AppleTV Wednesday, April 15.
