Elsbeth Referenced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Connection with a Funeral
Elsbeth has discovered an unexpected connection involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — this time relating to a funeral.
In the episode aired on Thursday, April 10, of the popular CBS show, Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) delved into the case of Arthur Greene Jr. (David Alan Grier), the proprietor of a prestigious funeral home, implicated in his nephew’s murder. The investigation coincided with a burial service for a well-known public figure, leading Elsbeth to encounter a photographer outside the venerable funeral establishment.
“Are you aiming to capture images of the senator’s family?” Elsbeth inquired. The photographer answered, “Family? No. Friends? Yes. Word has it, Harry and Meghan will be showing up. A great shot of them would make my entire year.”
Elsbeth wished him “good luck” before meeting him again later in the episode. This time, the royals were not mentioned as the photographer revealed he was departing after the “family opted for cremation instead.”
In case you missed it, Elsbeth has previously referenced the Duchess of Sussex, 43. In a January episode, Elsbeth uncovered issues at a holistic wellness center where a patient was found dead in his vehicle. She immediately grew suspicious of the center’s founder (Eric McCormack) after receiving the case from Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce).

“In the meantime, I need you on a case. A young man, Cole Campbell, was found lifeless on the highway. His vehicle went off the road,” Captain Wagner stated. “The last location he was seen was at some exclusive spa frequented by celebrities and royals.”
Wagner joked about the wellness center, noting, “The global media was already attempting to associate Meghan Markle with this, and she wasn’t even present!”
Before his prominent role on the unique procedural, Pierce, 61, portrayed Meghan’s father in Suits, which aired from 2011 to 2019. Meghan filmed her last scene on Suits in 2017 as her engagement to Harry, 40, was announced. Subsequently, Meghan exited the series, relocated to the U.K., and married the Duke of Sussex in 2018.
“On my last night of filming, I told her, ‘Meghan, your world is about to transform, and you’ll find yourself living in a bubble, but always remember, no matter what, I’m your friend, and many others are too. We’re constantly thinking of you and will always support you. No matter where you go, always know you have a friend in me,’” he recounted on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? in March 2024.

Harry and Meghan experienced a tumultuous time in the U.K., making headlines in 2020 when they revealed their decision to step back from their royal duties. In February 2021, they confirmed they would not resume their senior roles and chose to relocate to California with their son, Prince Archie, now 5, and daughter, Princess Lilibet, now 3.
Although Harry and Meghan were only mentioned briefly in Elsbeth, numerous other celebrities have made appearances on the show. Stars such as Jane Krakowski, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Blair Underwood, Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti, and Vanessa Williams have all played fictional roles since Elsbeth debuted in 2024.
Elsbeth airs on CBS Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes are available for streaming the following day on Paramount+.
