Emily in Paris Season 5: Premiere Date and First Look Unveiled
Lily Collins is set to explore Italy in Emily in Paris season 5.
On Wednesday, August 20, Netflix unveiled a series of images showcasing Collins’ character, Emily, navigating her new role at Agence Grateau Rome. In one captivating shot, Emily is seen aboard a boat, gazing at the water while sporting a stylish white-and-black polka-dot two-piece outfit paired with matching white sunglasses.
Another image captures Emily holding the reins of a horse alongside Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), who is dressed in a helmet and stands next to his own horse. The two also share a moment walking together, gazing into each other’s eyes as Marcello wraps an arm around her shoulders.
“Just as everything starts to come together, a work idea goes awry, leading to heartbreak and career challenges,” the official synopsis explains. “In her quest for stability, Emily embraces her French lifestyle, until a significant secret threatens one of her closest friendships. Confronting conflict with transparency, Emily emerges with strengthened bonds, newfound clarity, and a willingness to welcome new opportunities.”
Emily in Paris season 5 is set to debut on December 18, featuring characters Marcello, Mindy (Ashley Park), Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Julien (Samuel Arnold), Luc (Bruno Gouery), Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Antoine (William Abadie), Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), Genevieve (Thalia Besson), Nico (Paul Forman), Laurent G (Arnaud Binard), Princess Jane (Minnie Driver), Jake (Bryan Greenberg), and Yvette (Michèle Laroque).
Since its premiere in 2020, the beloved Netflix series has followed Emily as she navigates her transition from the U.S. to France. By the end of season 4, she relocates to Italy, hinting at a budding romance with Marcello.
Despite fan concerns about Emily’s future in Italy, creator Darren Star dismissed the notion. In a 2024 interview with Deadline, Star stated that Emily “didn’t change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome.”
“She is working in Rome occasionally. Sylvie’s company has an office there, and Emily is getting it off the ground,” Star, 64, remarked. “In my view, it’s definitely not a permanent move to Rome. We’re not leaving Paris.”
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron told Variety in 2024 that he intends to “fight hard” for the show not to change locations. Following this, Variety revealed that Emily in Paris will maintain its original setting, with select scenes filmed in Rome.
“I believe it broadens the series’ universe. Just as Emily begins to feel settled in Paris, she’s thrust into a new country where she will face cultural differences,” Star explained to TVLine in 2024. “Additionally, there are cultural contrasts to examine—between the French and Italians—and that’s a whole new realm, but it doesn’t mean we’re bidding farewell to Paris.”
Emily in Paris season 5 premieres on December 18.
