Bringing Up Bates star Erin Bates is currently facing serious health challenges following the arrival of her and husband Chad Paine’s seventh child.

Paine shared the joyful news via Instagram on August 27, 2025, announcing the birth of their son, Henry Blythe.

“After a long and emotional labor, our miracle arrived. Henry Blythe was born August 25th. 💙,” he wrote. “Henry is doing wonderfully, but we would greatly appreciate your prayers for Erin as she recovers from some complications. We thank the Lord for guiding us through this journey and for the gift of our precious boy.”

Paine later disclosed that his wife had undergone septic shock following infections in her body.

What Is Septic Shock?

Septic shock is the most critical stage of sepsis, described as occurring “when your immune system has an extreme reaction to an infection,” according to Cleveland Clinic. “The inflammation can result in dangerously low blood pressure.”

During the initial sepsis phase, individuals may experience symptoms like “rapid heart rate, fever or low body temperature, shakes or chills, warm or clammy skin, confusion or disorientation, rapid breathing, and shortness of breath.” This can escalate to severe sepsis, then septic shock, which can present symptoms such as “extremely low blood pressure, lightheadedness, minimal urine output, heart palpitations, cold and pale extremities, and skin rash.”

Typically, septic shock is treated with antibiotics and intravenous (IV) fluids.

A UTI and Kidney Infection Led to Erin Bates’ Septic Shock

Paine provided an update on September 1, 2025, detailing the complications Bates encountered.

“We are so thankful for every prayer and support you’ve shown us. A week has passed since our miracle, Henry, entered the world. He is thriving in the NICU and brings us immense joy,” he began.

Paine continued, “We had asked for prayers for Erin’s recovery due to complications. Her labor was longer and more intense than her previous births. She has shown incredible strength and grace, inspiring our nurses, staff, and doctors. We are in awe of her kindness amidst her pain.”

Paine explained that Bates “developed a severe UTI and kidney infection, resulting in septic shock.”

“She is currently in the ICU as doctors continue to treat and investigate her condition. We deeply appreciate your prayers for this wonderful woman who is a light in our lives. We are holding onto God’s promises,” he concluded.

Erin Bates Suffered a ‘Severe Seizure’ During Recovery

Paine shared another update on September 4, 2025, revealing a setback in Bates’ recovery.

“I have mixed feelings as I share this. Last night, Erin suffered a lengthy and severe seizure. Up until now, her infection was improving, but we find ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears,” he shared.

Paine added that Bates is “in the ICU” while doctors conduct “scans and tests to uncover the cause” of her illness.

“Erin is incredibly weak, having spent hours only half conscious. As her husband, it has been immensely challenging to sit by her side and witness her struggle, feeling helpless to ease her pain. I love her more than words can express, and I cannot imagine life without my best friend,” he continued. “The hours have been long, and I know that many share my heartache for her. We cling to faith that healing is forthcoming, even amidst the unknown. Your prayers are felt, and we are eternally grateful.”

The couple also shared a video of Bates holding her newborn baby in her hospital bed.

Paine informed Instagram followers on September 9 that his wife had been transferred to a new facility during her recovery “where a dedicated team of doctors is working together to help her improve.” He added, “We miss our babies more than words can express and are incredibly thankful for every prayer, message, and act of kindness from everyone who has reached out during this difficult time. Your love carries us. 🤍.”
