Everything Sean Lowe from Bachelor Nation Has Shared About His Dog Attack

Sean Lowe has openly shared with Bachelor Nation fans about the alarming incident he faced involving his family dog, Moose.

The former Bachelor star, 41, detailed in a March 17 Instagram video that during a barbeque at his house, Moose started nipping at him when the smoke alarm sounded. He described Moose’s bites as so forceful that they “put holes” in his shoes.

“In the midst of the chaos from the alarm, I firmly said, ‘Moose. No. No,’” he recounted at the time. “It was then that he showed his teeth and launched an attack on me. This wasn’t just a defensive bite and run away like most dogs might do when frightened. He attacked me, and I could feel him tearing into my arm. At that moment, I was doing everything possible to defend myself from this dog.”

Lowe said Moose pursued him into the backyard, where he felt as though he was “fighting for [his] life” against the dog who had been adopted by his family just a few months earlier. When blood was “squirting” from his feet, his friends quickly called his wife, Catherine Giudici, and transported him to the emergency room.

After another attack the following day, Lowe and his family decided to find a new home for Moose. “We miss our dog, as strange as that may sound. He was truly a good dog,” he mentioned in the video. “And we miss him.”

The Aftermath

In his March 17 Instagram video, Lowe explained that he received stitches in “five or six different places” on his arm due to the attack. After returning home, his friends managed to contain Moose in the backyard and cleaned up what he described as a “literal pool” of blood.

Lowe showed his injured arms in the video, expressing concern that Moose may have “nicked an artery” from the significant blood loss. “We have the video, but it’s too graphic to share,” he said. “You can hear me urging, ‘This is serious. You need to get me to a hospital. Call Catherine.’ I’m grateful my friends were there because they rushed me to the ER.”

Second Attack

The next morning, Lowe’s parents came to pick up his and Giudici’s children while the couple planned their next steps. (The family includes Samuel, 8, Isaiah, 6, and Mia, 5.)

“I was waiting in the front yard for my parents to arrive with the kids. They pulled up, and as we were getting the kids in the car, I suddenly heard Catherine calling out ‘No, no, no, no’ from inside the house,” Lowe recounted of the day after the initial incident. “When I looked at the front door, I saw Moose charging out.”

He added, “Having gone through a dog attack is extremely traumatic. Experiencing a similar situation less than 12 hours later, with the dog rushing at me, is something I hope to never endure again—especially since my arm was stitched up and difficult to move.”

Sean Lowe hasn’t had much luck with family pets. In April 2023, the former Bachelor shared that he and Catherine Giudici needed to rehome their dog, Gus, after he injured their oldest son, Samuel. “The result was a trip to the E.R. and a […]

Lowe managed to “wrestle” Moose to the ground. “I had a grip on his collar, but I knew he had ripped my arm open. I genuinely felt like I was fighting for my life. I believed that if this dog got back up, he would kill me,” he reflected.

He noted that it took “everything [he] had” to restrain Moose, saying, “If it had been anyone else, he would have attacked my children or my wife, but I was able to hold him down for 10 minutes until the police arrived, and even they struggled to gain control of him.”

Finding a New Home

“With everything that has happened, I know I can’t keep Moose in our home. I have young kids, and I need to prioritize my safety,” Lowe explained in his extensive Instagram video. “I reached out to local animal control, who connected me with a compassionate officer that owned a Boxer himself. He was very understanding, and we discussed the next steps. I also contacted the rescue group where we adopted Moose and began looking into various no-kill shelters. I was trying to determine the best course of action, and this officer told me, ‘Make your calls and then call me back. We’ll figure this out together.’ He was incredibly supportive.”

Moose’s Past

Lowe clarified in his Instagram video that he doesn’t “blame” Moose for the attack. “It’s clear he went through significant trauma before we adopted him and had some underlying neurological issues that triggered an unexpected aggression. It was perplexing because he had never shown any signs of aggression. He was wonderful around my kids and behaved well at home. He was just a loving, affectionate Boxer, which we adore,” he elaborated.

He continued, “I contacted the rescue organization and informed them about the incident. Even they acknowledged there were aspects of his past they were unaware of.”

Post-incident, Lowe finds himself contemplating what could have occurred if the smoke alarm had gone off while Moose was with the kids. “I can’t help but think, ‘What if that alarm went off when he was — he would sleep in bed with the kids every night. What would he have done?’” he pondered. “I dread thinking about that ‘what if’ scenario. I’m just grateful for how everything unfolded.”

Back in Action

Nearly a month after discussing the attack, Lowe provided fans with a health update. “I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude,” he shared in an April 15 Instagram Story video. “We received thousands of messages from people wishing me well and sharing their own experiences. Thank you, thank you; I could genuinely feel the sincerity behind those messages.”

Lowe reported that he was “doing great” and that his scars “aren’t as bad as he anticipated.” He affectionately noted, “Isaiah loves to kiss this scar here. The doctor mentioned that it will heal as well as possible but will remain a cool scar.”

From his end, Isaiah thanked Lowe’s followers for “being nice to daddy.”
