Everything You Need to Know About Dexter: Original Sin Prequel Series
Everyone’s favorite serial killer is back in action.
In February 2023, Showtime and Paramount+ announced that Dexter, the acclaimed thriller that aired from 2006 to 2013, would be getting a prequel series. Set 15 years prior to the beginning of the original show, viewers will meet a young Dexter and explore the origins of his murderous tendencies, as well as delve into his family dynamics. The cast was revealed in May 2024.
Originally portrayed by Michael C. Hall, Dexter became a pop culture icon as the man who assisted the Miami police in solving murders by day and hunted down criminals by night. The original series garnered numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, paving the way for the spinoff New Blood, which also starred Hall and aired from 2021 to 2022.
After New Blood concluded, Hall hinted at his prospects within the franchise, suggesting, “I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to play a young Dexter at this point,” during a 2023 interview. “I think that ship sailed even before we started shooting the [original] series, but I’m open to the possibility.”
While discussions about another chapter were still in the theoretical stage, Hall expressed his eagerness to see what new directions the character might take. “I’ve learned to never say never,” he remarked.
