Anne Hathaway is set to reprise her role in the Devil Wears Prada sequel, joining her original co-stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the talented screenwriter of the 2006 fashion comedy, is penning the script for this follow-up film for Disney, as multiple sources reported in July 2024. Producer Wendy Finerman will return to oversee the project, alongside the original director David Frankel, as noted by Entertainment Weekly.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, The Devil Wears Prada follows Hathaway‘s character, Andy Sachs, who is hired by Runway editor Miranda Priestly (Streep) as her new assistant. Miranda imposes a rigorous schedule on Andy and assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), keeping them on call continuously. “The first time Meryl embodied Miranda Priestly was during a meeting with the studio head,” Frankel recounted to EW on the film’s 15-year anniversary in 2021. “Meryl channeled Miranda in that meeting, and there was no need to discuss her hairstyle; they simply looked into Meryl’s eyes without uttering a word.”

When asked about her openness to a second film, Streep responded to Access Hollywood in 2012, “Sure, I mean, I’d have to lose the f–king weight, but I would do that, yes.”
Hathaway has previously mentioned her uncertainty about a sequel due to changes in the media landscape. “I believe that film was made in a different era, you know? Now, everything has shifted to digital, while that movie was all about producing something tangible,” she explained on The View in November 2022. “Things are just very different now.”
