Fans Comment on Carrie Underwood’s Transformation with New Hairstyle
Carrie Underwood is catching her fans off guard with her recent selfie and new hairstyle.
“Every child deserves hope,” Underwood, 45, shared in a post on Instagram on December 12, to support the Music Gives to St. Jude Kids’ fundraising campaign ahead of the holiday season. “Become a Partner in Hope with @stjude and grab your @musicgives shirt at musicgives.org to assist kids battling cancer. ❤️.”
While many fans were thrilled to see the American Idol alum collaborating with the children’s hospital and championing the nonprofit cause, some followers struggled to recognize Underwood in the picture.
“Still very pretty but looks like a different person,” one commenter noted, seemingly alluding to Underwood’s darker hair, styled in beachy waves and parted down the center.
Another user commented, “Didn’t even look like Carrie,” a sentiment echoed by a third fan who wrote, “It doesn’t look like her. 🤷🏻♀️.”
“Who is this a picture of?” another person queried in the comments.
A different fan admitted, “If this pic wasn’t on her page, I’d never recognize who this was.”
The mixed reactions to Underwood’s hairstyle could stem from the fact that she has been blonde since her debut on American Idol back in 2004.
Over the years, her blonde shades have varied, predominantly leaning towards platinum or golden tones.
In August, the Grammy winner revealed her hair switch from her iconic blonde to “bronde.”
“Well, the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time for a change,” Underwood shared on Instagram. “Thanks, @hairbykatelin_ at @parlour3beauty for helping me return to my roots! #NewOldMe #Bronde.”
Despite her appearances over the last month sporting her bronde look, many fans were taken aback to see Underwood’s darker hair up close in her recent upload. (Her latest selfie appears to be a darker shade than her August hairstyle.)
“Who????? This is not Carrie Underwood, stop,” one user commented on the singer’s Friday post.
Nonetheless, other fans celebrated Underwood’s choice for darker locks, with one person saying, “Love your hair color. 💞.”

A third commenter described Underwood’s new style as “super cute,” while a fourth added, “Your hair is super cute that color, love it 😊🩷.”

One more person stated that Underwood’s shade was “inspiration” for their own color change: “Love your hair! I’m considering going darker too! You’re an inspiration, thank you for all that you do! ❤️,” they commented.
More than ten years prior to her hair update, Underwood expressed her willingness to possibly change her iconic blonde, stating to Refinery29 in 2012, “I’d love to experiment more with hair color. I’ve always been blonde! The issue is, I don’t want to shock people.”
She elaborated, “If I dyed my hair brown, I wouldn’t want people to think I’m turning dark and serious. I wish I had started changing my hair earlier; it wouldn’t be such a huge surprise if I did something like that now.”
