Gibbs Reveals His Marriage to Lala in Sneak Peek of NCIS: Origins Season 2

The second half of NCIS: Origins season 2 is kicking off in a rather awkward fashion as Gibbs informs Lala that he is indeed a married man.

In an exclusive clip from Us Weekly for the episode airing on Tuesday, March 3, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) shows up late and clearly hungover following his impromptu wedding to Diane (Kathleen Kenny).

“We were in Vegas,” he shares with the team to explain his tardiness. “We got married.”

The team initially thinks Gibbs is joking, with Randy (Caleb Foote) quipping, “Did you go to one of those little white chapels where Elvis officiates?”

Fan-favorite couples like Buck and Eddie from 9-1-1, Sydney and Carmy from The Bear, and Tracker’s Colter and Reenie (or Billie) deserve to unite on screen in 2026. Based on Jeffery Deaver’s novel The Never Game, Tracker keeps viewers engaged with its portrayal of Colter, a skilled survivalist.

While Lala (Mariel Molino), Franks (Kyle Schmid), and Vera (Diany Rodriguez) initially believe Gibbs is “still drunk,” they soon understand he is serious about his marriage.

“A regular guy officiated the ceremony. Elvis had clocked out,” Gibbs clarifies, prompting Vera to respond, “Congratulations. When’s the annulment?”

Before the return of the CBS series, Stowell, 41, shared with Us Gibbs’s choice to marry Diane, despite his feelings for Lala.

“Gibbs is someone who has been married once and is married to his job, dedicating himself to his work and his colleagues. He expresses this to Diane at one point by saying, ‘If I can’t do this job, I don’t know who I am.’ This reveals a lot about his character and his struggle to find balance,” he noted. “He’s attempting to put his life together.”

Stowell hinted at the future of Gibbs’s marriage.

“A Gibbs rule is that he never looks back. So this is a choice he must honor,” Stowell mentioned. “He’s now allowed someone into his life and cares for that partnership deeply, just as he does with everything. This decision reveals a lot about his current mindset.”

Stowell added, “He aims to move past his first marriage, which ended tragically, and is seeking to rebuild himself.”

Fans familiar with Mark Harmon‘s portrayal of Gibbs in the original NCIS might recall he had four marriages—Shannon, Diane, Rebecca, and Stephanie. While some viewers hoped for a deviation in the prequel, NCIS: Origins has largely adhered to established lore.

“Every time we approach these storylines, they seem daunting—how we will integrate them into our narrative,” said creator Gina Lucita Monreal in an interview with Us back in April 2025. “However, it usually turns out to be beneficial as we find ways to interlace these tales. We are genuinely excited to explore this one too.”

More recently, Molino, 32, hinted at how Gibbs and Lala’s relationship might continue to evolve, despite his new marriage.

“Even if we can’t showcase this love story, we can portray the subtleties of longing for someone and how that influences various facets of life—work, career, and personal experiences,” Molino stated to Us in October 2025. “There’s this desire to prove someone wrong or to make them proud.”

She continued, “The writers are doing a commendable job of navigating our relationship dynamics. … While Gibbs has powerful feelings for Lala, he battles the urge to protect his heart from potential loss. It’s about avoiding the pain of opening up, only to face heartbreak once more.”

When season 1 premiered in November 2024, Stowell discussed with Us the likelihood of the beloved couple finding their way to each other.

“At this junction, it’s just months after Gibbs lost his wife and child. Even if those emotions are surfacing, he’s likely suppressing them, feeling he shouldn’t feel that way,” Stowell explained. “If his wife and daughter were alive, he’d be with them. They are his focus, and it’s their murder that haunts him, propelling him into interactions with others.”

The actor noted how aware Gibbs and Lala are of the challenges facing their potential romance.

“The tension that arises from this is evident. … Their physical intimacy marks a crucial turning point as they navigate working together,” he continued. “These shared experiences can forge a strong bond, especially when they face obstacles and triumph together—this could serve as a catalyst for something deeper.”

NCIS: Origins airs on CBS Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
