NBC’s Grosse Pointe Garden Society is centered around a murder mystery — interestingly, even the cast members were kept in the dark about the identity of the deceased character that their roles are involved with.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Ben Rappaport shared insights into what audiences can anticipate from the series, set to premiere on Sunday, February 23. He stated, “It all begins with our showrunners, Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs. The way they have crafted this storyline is incredible. It’s a wild ride that keeps surprising us each week. Every time we receive new scripts, we find ourselves saying, ‘Wow, what’s going to happen next?’ and we can’t wait to see the next installment.”

Rappaport, who is 38, mentioned that the show’s stars speculate just like the viewers do.

“However, each of us has our own detailed story arcs that extend from this central plot. It keeps the audience guessing throughout,” he elaborated. “The addictive nature of every episode will captivate viewers; just when you think you’re getting closer to the truth, they might lead you away. Expect plenty of surprises.”

Steve Swisher/NBC Grosse Pointe Garden Society is compelling not just because it’s a murder mystery but also due to its impressive ensemble cast. The NBC series, debuting on Sunday, February 23, focuses on four members of a suburban garden club “whose lives become intertwined through scandal, mischief, and a concealed secret — a murder that nobody wishes to discuss.”

“As a cast, we learned about the victim very recently, and we are, of course, sworn to secrecy regarding the details. There was a long period when we were kept in the dark,” Rappaport confessed. “That uncertainty contributed to the enjoyment of the plot twists. Just like the viewers, we found ourselves guessing. This aspect is why I truly love working in television. There’s a unique journey for every character through varied situations. Honestly, I appreciated not having prior knowledge about these plot points.”

While Rappaport was tight-lipped about future developments, he expressed eagerness for the audience to experience the journey, stating, “Throughout the series, we explore different parallel timelines, continuously shifting back and forth. You will find yourself questioning how we arrived at certain points, and as the season progresses, these timelines eventually converge. The noticeable contrast between [my character] Brett in the present versus the future is his heightened stress levels. Especially for all of us, viewers will witness our most frazzled selves in the flash-forwards and future scenes.”

Grosse Pointe Garden Society is set to premiere on NBC on Sunday, February 23, at 10 p.m. ET, with subsequent episodes available for streaming on Peacock the following day.
