Hailee Steinfeld Shares the ‘Most Profound’ Aspect of Her Birth Preparation
Expecting mother Hailee Steinfeld is eagerly anticipating her little one’s arrival.
“This week, while I was relaxing on my couch, it dawned on me that our little family is about to expand,” Steinfeld, 29, shared via her “Beau Society” newsletter on Friday, February 20. “Naturally, I have my to-do lists (which I adore), and I’ve been diving into research along with the usual life rearrangements that come with preparing for a baby.”
She elaborated, “The most meaningful and grounding aspect of preparing for this baby has been the introspective journey and the quiet reflections I’m having with myself almost daily. Occasionally, I catch myself pondering significant questions (‘What will I be like as a mom?’) or vividly envisioning our future together when the three of us are cozied up in the nursery.”
Steinfeld revealed in December 2025 that she is expecting her first child with her husband, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
“As I tune in, I’ve encountered this surreal, all-encompassing awareness that our world is about to bloom in beautiful ways,” Steinfeld, who hasn’t publicly disclosed the gender of her baby, reflected on Friday. “We’re preparing to welcome someone we already cherish deeply. I’ve tried to find the right words to express that feeling, but I haven’t found them yet. Perhaps that’s the essence of it. For now, I’m grateful to embrace this feeling.”
Steinfeld has also been fully immersed in “nesting” for her baby’s arrival, organizing and decorating the nursery.
“The nesting phase is very real, and I’m currently experiencing it. Unsurprisingly, creating a nursery has been a joy for me,” she mentioned. “I’ve debated over small details more than I’d like to admit … but watching everything slowly come together has made our new life feel more tangible. Emphasis on ‘slowly’ – it’s still definitely a work in progress.”
The Sinners actress began preparing her baby’s nursery thanks to valuable advice from her “mom friends.”
“There are a few essentials that nearly every mom friend has encouraged me to prepare,” she noted, listing double zipper sleepers, crib sheets, burp cloths, a sound machine, “a really good” rocking chair, and a postpartum basket as essential items she has already ordered.
“In general, I adopt a minimalist approach when shopping for baby clothes,” Steinfeld added. “I don’t want to feel overwhelmed by too much. However, I’ve made some purchases. There’s something surreal about folding tiny clothes, organizing drawers, and placing little socks in a basket, and realizing that our baby will actually wear these.”
Allen, 29, is also excited to welcome the couple’s first child.
“I have siblings with kids, and a lot of friends who are parents, and I’m not sure you can plan too much in advance,” Allen joked about balancing parenthood with football during a January press conference. “I’m genuinely looking forward to this journey with my wife. Becoming a dad is something I will cherish greatly.”
He added, “We’ll have to navigate things as they come, just like anything else. This will be the most significant role in my life — being a dad.”
