Harry Hamlin Reflects on Three Different Drug Arrests

Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin were sharing insights about their parenting methods concerning their daughters Delilah Belle and Amelia Gray, when Harry’s prior arrests surfaced in conversation.

“I went to jail,” Hamlin, 73, reminisced during the Friday, March 21 episode of their “Let’s Not Talk About the Husband” podcast. Rinna, 61, chimed in, “I can’t recall why you got arrested. Twice for marijuana?”

“Yeah, you know, I’ve never been a fan of weed. I’ve never really smoked it,” Hamlin expressed. “I can’t recall ever purchasing weed in my life.”

Nevertheless, “every time” he found himself around people using marijuana—especially back in college in 1973—there was always some run-in with the law.

“I was arrested along with them, or for some reason,” he explained. “I got arrested for sleeping on the beach in the Hamptons, and the cops stumbled upon a roach in the sand, which led to all of us being arrested and tossed in jail.”

Previously, he had been handcuffed at the San Francisco airport in 1970.

“An upperclassman from my fraternity had given me some pills to take to USC during finals week,” Hamlin recounted. “These were speed pills meant to keep people awake for their exams. The police discovered the items in my guitar case and charged me with possession of narcotics with intent to sell. I was facing a three-year sentence in prison. That’s an entirely different tale.”

Hamlin recalled serving “approximately 18 days in jail or something like that,” as he mentioned elsewhere in the podcast.

“I was ultimately sentenced for that, but I was arrested and imprisoned. My parents didn’t want anything to do with it,” he noted. “My girlfriend was frantically searching for a lawyer in the courthouse the morning after my arrest. While I was being arraigned, she was calling out, ‘Is there anyone here? I need a lawyer!’”

Hamlin added, “As fate would have it, the most renowned and successful drug attorney in San Francisco overheard her cry and took on my case pro bono.”

The charges were eventually reduced to a misdemeanor.

Hamlin’s third arrest occurred on a beach in Hawaii because his friend was smoking marijuana. (The timing of this incident remains unclear.)

“I was down by the water, enjoying the view, and he ended up getting arrested,” Hamlin stated. “Since I was with him, they arrested me too.”

Rinna, visibly shocked by her husband’s admissions, revealed that she had never been arrested.

“You’ve been arrested three times for drugs. It makes everyone think you must be a drug addict. I can’t even remember ever buying drugs,” Hamlin continued. Rinna interjected, “Harry, after these podcasts, for sure, they’re going to think we are full-fledged drug addicts. You and me both, by the way.”
