HBO Max Welcomes One of the Greatest TV Shows of All Time This December
This year, Christmas arrives early for HBO Max subscribers.
Starting December 1, Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform will begin offering one of the most celebrated TV series ever — Mad Men.
Currently, AMC+ holds the streaming rights to the Matthew Weiner-created drama focused on the advertising world of the 1960s, but that will be changing next month.
HBO Max viewers will experience the show in an entirely new way — quite literally.
What’s Unique About ‘Mad Men’ on HBO Max?
For the very first time, all 92 episodes will be available in stunning 4K for HBO Max’s premium subscribers. That’s right, fans will soon be able to appreciate every detail, from Don’s (Jon Hamm) sharp suits to Betty’s (January Jones) stylish dresses and Joan’s (Christina Hendricks) vibrant red hair. Besides its outstanding writing, direction, and acting, Mad Men boasts top-tier production values, and streaming it with the latest technology is a treat for both longtime and new fans.
“Mad Men is an exceptional addition to the HBO Max library of iconic content,” said Royce Battleman, EVP of Global Content Acquisitions at Warner Bros. Discovery. “We are excited that HBO Max will allow fans to enjoy the series in a fresh way with an enhanced 4K viewing experience.”
“Mad Men displays remarkable staying power with audiences a full decade after its original network run, and we could not envision a better platform for it than HBO Max,” stated Jim Packer, President of Worldwide Television Distribution at Lionsgate. “HBO sets the standard for premium entertainment, making it the ideal venue to celebrate one of television’s defining series while introducing Mad Men to new audiences and refreshing it for longtime fans in 4K.”
Which ‘Mad Men’ Episodes Should You Enjoy in 4K?
Well, certainly all of them! However, the most visually striking episodes also rank among Mad Men’s finest. “The Sitcause” primarily focuses on Don and Peggy during an all-nighter as they watch Muhammad Ali triumph over Sonny Liston, and its unique visuals, particularly during their late-night meal and bonding moments, make it a prime candidate for high-definition viewing.
Additionally, the series finale, “Person to Person,” in which Don reflects at a spiritual retreat along the California coast, is perfect for 4K, especially that unforgettable concluding shot. Don’t miss the preceding episodes, “Lost Horizon” and “The Milk and Honey Route,” where Don’s quest for self-discovery culminates with breathtaking cinematography capturing America’s heartland in 1970.
Mad Men features stars such as Jon Hamm, Vincent Kartheiser, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Rich Sommer, Aaron Staton, Kiernan Shipka, Jessica Pare, and John Slattery. Notable guest stars include Alexis Bledel, Linda Cardellini, Colin Hanks, Zosia Mamet, Neve Campbell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Harry Hamlin, and Anna Camp. The series received 16 Emmys during its run from 2007 to 2015, including Best Actor for Hamm, alongside 116 nominations.
