How Prince William and Kate Middleton Create a ‘Regular Family Life’ for Their Kids
Prince William is firm in his belief that his children should enjoy a “relatively normal home life,” despite their royal status.
“I strive to adhere to school schedules as much as possible. Most days involve lots of pick-ups and drop-offs at school,” William, 43, shared during his recent guest spot on Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveler series. “Finding the right balance between work and family life is essential because, to me, my family is the most important thing in my life.”
William and his wife, Princess Kate Middleton, have been married since 2011. They have three children: sons Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, 7, along with daughter Princess Charlotte, 10.
“Everything revolves around the future,” William noted in the Apple TV+ docuseries. “If we don’t start off with a happy, healthy, stable home, I believe we are setting them up for challenges later. It’s crucial to cultivate an atmosphere at home filled with warmth, safety, security, and love.”
William revealed that he gained valuable insights from his late mother, Princess Diana, who tragically died in a car accident in August 1997 after divorcing King Charles III.
“You learn from those experiences and strive to avoid repeating your parents’ mistakes,” William stated in the episode. “We all aim to do that, and my priority is to ensure the best for my children, as I know that the stress and drama in childhood can have lasting effects.”
While William and Kate, 43, are committed to keeping their children grounded, they are aware that George is destined to be the future king of England (George is second in line to the throne after William).
“It’s a thought-provoking and significant question,” William told Levy, 78, when reflecting on his son’s future as a monarch. “There are numerous factors to consider. But ultimately, I aspire to create a world where my son is proud of our work, a role that positively influences people’s lives.”
He added, “I hope we don’t revert to some of the issues that [Prince] Harry and I faced while growing up, and I will do everything in my power to prevent us from regressing in that regard.”
William and his younger brother, from whom the Prince of Wales is currently estranged, have been subjected to intense media scrutiny since childhood.
“When family matters come into play, that’s when I start to feel overwhelmed, as anyone might,” William expressed on the show, making a rare mention of his complex relationship with his brother. “It becomes more personal; it’s about feelings and disrupting the rhythm of life.”
As for Harry, 41, he and his wife Meghan Markle relocated to California in 2020.
