Hunting Wives Fans Spot Unresolved Mystery Surrounding Abby’s Murder

With The Hunting Wives aiming to make significant changes from the original book, some fans are observing that a crucial question regarding Abby’s murder remains unanswered in the series.

A viewer shared their thoughts on TikTok, questioning Jill’s (Katie Lowes) role in the murder of her son Brad’s (George Ferrier) girlfriend.

“How can you not see that Margo was responsible for Abby’s death AND that Jill hit her with the car first?” the caption on the video from Saturday, August 9, read. “That’s why she was limping and why Jill was cleaning her car.”

The comments section quickly filled with viewers sharing similar inquiries.

“Oooh! And Jill probably thought she actually killed her!! This makes the most sense!!” one fan commented, while another noted, “Did anyone else catch that before Margo had them sign NDAs, she was revealing everyone’s secrets but Jill stopped her from mentioning hers… 👀.”

While many viewers agreed that Jill had some involvement, opinions were split on whether Margo (Malin Åkerman) was aware of it.

“That’s what Margo meant by ‘what do you have to hide??’ and Jill retorts, ‘what about you??’” one user speculated, with another suggesting, “There’s no way Jill isn’t involved.”

Another theory raised the possibility that Margo and Jill might have been secretly collaborating.

“I think Jill informed Margo she hit her with the car… and Margo said she’d take care of it,” said a viewer. “That’s why Jill wouldn’t delete her photos and stuff. I bet she had evidence of Margo being involved… but who knows, maybe that’s a stretch.”

Based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, The Hunting Wives centers on Sophie (Brittany Snow), who relocates from Boston to a small town in East Texas and becomes entangled with the influential socialite Margo (Åkerman). This leads to themes of gunplay, excessive drinking, intense attraction between Sophie and Margo, and ultimately, murder.

However, while Cobb’s novel reveals Jill (Lowes) as the murderer of Brad’s (Ferrier) girlfriend Abby, the show took creative liberties, portraying Margo as the killer instead.

The Hunting Wives drew heavily from May Cobb’s novel, though it included some surprising modifications. Netflix premiered the first season in July 2025, following Sophie (Brittany Snow) as she transitioned from Boston to an East Texas town, where she became enamored with prominent socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman) and the ensuing drama.

“[Creator] Rebecca [Cutter] and May Cobb share a wonderful relationship. They have been in constant communication, and May encouraged her with, ‘Go for it,’” Åkerman, 47, revealed exclusively to Us Weekly in July regarding the alterations in the story. “She was present on set and was thrilled to see her characters come alive, loving the direction Rebecca took with them.”

Since its debut, The Hunting Wives has gained popularity on Netflix, with fans eagerly awaiting news of a second season. Cutter addressed the potential for a follow-up in a July interview with Variety, hinting at “a slight time jump — not a full year, but some time.” She added that introducing a new murder mystery could be “smart,” stating, “I don’t know who the culprit is yet or who the victim might be!”

Author Cobb has also expressed support for a continuation. “I believe there’s much more story to tell,” Cobb mentioned to CBS 19 in July. “It concludes on a cliffhanger, and the cast and crew were fantastic. We all want to come together and collaborate again.”

The Hunting Wives is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
