Inside Mel B’s 15-Acre Farm in England: ‘I Feel Safe Here’
Melanie Brown has retreated to the countryside for a slower, more tranquil life after her time in the limelight.
“When I purchased the farm initially [in 2024], it was just a small barn without running water or electricity,” Brown, 49, revealed in an exclusive Us Weekly cover story.
Brown (often referred to as Mel B) — whose expansive 15-acre estate is nestled in the Yorkshire countryside — now cares for three goats, chickens, ducks, and two “massive” Rottweilers. “I often think animals can be kinder than people,” she humorously remarked.
The former Spice Girl made sure to bring along her 8-year-old “emotional support” Yorkshire terrier–Chihuahua mix, Cookie, to her new home. “She shakes more than I do, so who’s really supporting who?” Brown jested.
In her conversation with Us, Brown opened up about rediscovering joy after a difficult period, discussing how she manages her mental health challenges in the public eye.
“I ensure I take my brain breaks by visiting Thailand alone. I go up to my farm without my phone, so my children or fiancé can only reach me if they make the trek to [a different] field,” she shared, referencing her fiancé Rory McPhee. “I create space to breathe, feel, and reflect.”
Brown emphasized her commitment to using her platform to support “as many women as possible, especially survivors of abuse,” through her role as a patron for the domestic violence charity Women’s Aid. (In her 2018 memoir, Brutally Honest, Brown disclosed that she attempted to take her own life four years earlier.)
“I’m learning more about myself as I go, particularly reflecting on my past, feeling so insecure and unworthy,” Brown shared with Us. “I’ve been able to carve out my own path to a peaceful existence.”
