The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Miranda McWhorter discusses her current relationship with Shinia Powell following her friend’s involvement with Taylor Frankie Paul’s ex, Dakota Mortensen.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 4.

“I believe the Taylor and Dakota situation played a significant role, particularly because I was upfront about how her pursuing that relationship would impact both her and me, which felt disregarded repeatedly,” Miranda, 27, told Us Weekly exclusively ahead of the season 4 premiere on Thursday, March 12.

She added, “Furthermore, I understood Taylor’s frustrations. As events unfolded, it became easier to make that choice.”

The cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives appears to be taking sides in the latest drama involving Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex, Dakota Mortensen. Miranda McWhorter and Layla Taylor posted a TikTok on Tuesday, June 17, showing them filming content before Dakota appears in the frame. The caption read, “When you run into your friend’s ex unexpectedly.” […]

Although Miranda didn’t go into detail about her fallout with Shinia, she emphasized that her decision to support Taylor rests on “a lot more” than what viewers will see in season 4.

“But we’ll see more of that unfold,” she teased, confirming her friendship with Taylor remains intact.

In season 4 of Mormon Wives, tensions escalate when MomTok discovers that Shinia has been intimate with Dakota amid his complex relationship with Taylor. (Dakota and Taylor welcomed their son Ever in March 2024. Taylor is also a mom to daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 5, from her marriage to Tate Paul.)

Meanwhile, Taylor expressed her frustration with Miranda for maintaining her friendship with Shinia and not informing her about it sooner—ultimately giving Miranda an ultimatum regarding their friendships.

“If I find out she’s best friends with her, I’m cutting you off as well,” Taylor stated during a phone call with MomTok. “And anyone who defends her can forget it. Ever again.”

As emotions ran high after the phone call, Mayci Neeley questioned, “So you feel like you have to choose now?” Miranda responded, “Yeah. … Shinia has been a better friend to me than Taylor ever has.”

“It’s frustrating for Taylor to issue me an ultimatum about choosing her over Shinia because I’m not your partner nor your child. I’m simply your friend,” Miranda expressed during a confessional. “And I doubt Taylor will be happy with the choice I’m making right now.”
