Jenna Dewan Applies Fake Tan to Her 12-Year-Old Daughter for Dance Competition

Jenna Dewan humorously documented her daughter Everly Tatum’s preparations for an Irish dance competition, which took place when she was just 12 years old.

The Step Up star, 44, joked on her Instagram Story on Saturday, October 25, about the dedication it took to apply “instant tanner” at 7 a.m. for Everly’s big performance!

The early morning effort seemed to have paid off, as later footage on Dewan’s Instagram Story showed Everly performing her dance routine with remarkable ease.

As a mother of three, Dewan — who shares Everly with ex-husband Channing Tatum, along with son Callum, 5, and daughter Rhiannon, 1, with fiancé Steve Kazee — possesses a wealth of experience that she leverages to guide her daughter’s journey in competitive dance.

Dewan began her career as a backup dancer for icons like Janet Jackson, Celine Dion, and Pink before showcasing her dance skills in her breakthrough film Step Up in 2006.

Interestingly, the actress shared with Us Weekly that Everly had little interest in dancing as she was growing up, despite having two parents with a strong performing background. (Tatum starred alongside Dewan in Step Up and in the Magic Mike series.)

“We’ve always joked that coming from two dance parents, she had zero interest at all,” Dewan revealed to Us in 2022. “Recently, she expressed a desire to pursue Irish dancing on her own.”

Dewan noted that Everly’s newfound passion for Irish dance took both parents by surprise since it deviated so much from their own dance styles.

“She said, ‘Oh, my gosh, I want to do that,” the Come Dance with Me judge explained. “Now she’s attending Irish dance classes, and she’s very serious about it. She absolutely loves it. We’re all in for it… but in her unique way. That’s so Evie. She likes to do things differently. It’s really cool.”

Dewan also hinted that her son Callum might be the next one to embrace dancing, as he possesses “a little swag [and] a little bounce” reminiscent of his father. Kazee has a rich background in musical theater, including a Tony Award for his role in Once.

“[Callum] already shows a bit of inclination for rhythm and music,” she playfully shared. “I’m very much against pushing my interests onto my kids; I want them to discover what they genuinely enjoy. But they’re starting to explore.”

Dewan and Tatum initially met on the set of Step Up in 2006 and got married in 2009. While both have been discreet about their 2018 split and subsequent divorce, Tatum, 45, revealed to Variety in September that he and Dewan have worked through their challenges to co-parent Evie effectively.

“Jenna and I are on good terms now, but it was a painful experience to go through, especially at such a young age,” Tatum reflected. “We tried to hold it together for a year and a half… It’s all behind us now.”

He mentioned that the divorce was “challenging” for the family, adding: “It’s really hard not having your daughter half the time. I wish I could have her all the time.”

Since their separation, Tatum has entered into long-term relationships with Jessie J and Zoë Kravitz, both of which have now concluded. Meanwhile, Dewan announced her engagement to Kazee in February 2020, and they welcomed son Callum in March 2020 and daughter Rhiannon in June 2024.

“From the moment you arrived, you have brought immense joy and love into our lives… your gentle grace, sweetness, and beauty have captivated our entire family,” the couple expressed in Rhiannon’s 2024 birth announcement. “Our hearts are overflowing with love, and we are truly blessed by your presence. Welcome to our world, baby girl.”
