Jenna Ortega Unveils a Y2K-Inspired Look Celebrating the ’90s

Jenna Ortega wasn’t born in the ’90s; in fact, she arrived after the Versus Versace collection that influenced her recent style made its runway debut at Milan Fashion Week in 1997.

However, you’d never guess if you saw her striking Versace outfit, complete with the iconic Gianni Ribbon Sandals, as she graced the red carpet on Tuesday, April 1, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

At 22 years old, Ortega is currently promoting her latest film, Death of a Unicorn. Over the past few months, she has elevated method dressing to extraordinary heights, culminating in her high five-inch heels that took her look to new extremes.

The bold platforms reflect the extravagant flair that the late Gianni Versace made iconic, showcasing the signature bow featuring the Medusa logo at its center.

Other rising stars, such as Selena Gomez, have sported the beribboned Versace block heels before, but Ortega has consistently demonstrated her admiration for the brand since her breakout role in the series Wednesday, which debuted in November 2022.

Just days before the series landed on Netflix, she dazzled in a black lace slip from Donatella Versace’s 2023 Spring collection, accessorized with a Wednesday Adams-inspired black veil at the Los Angeles premiere.

In contrast, Ortega’s CinemaCon appearance showcased a vibrant departure from Wednesday’s oft-gothic wardrobe—an aesthetic she has completely embraced—proving her affinity for Versace’s stylish “loud luxury” expressed through pastel hues and daring designs.

The actress styled her outfit with a purple double-breasted blazer layered over a semi-sheer collared shirt adorned with a poppy pattern and Medusa buttons, tucked neatly into lilac suede shorts.

When Donatella revealed the collection, she remarked that she was inspired by the joyfulness of Gianni’s Spring 1997 Versus Versace display.

“The ’90s were about freedom, happiness, and a more relaxed approach to styling outfits,” she shared with Vogue at that moment.

The Versace house has been reflecting on its historical collections with varying degrees of focus since the 20th anniversary of Gianni’s passing in 2017. The most recent instance was in February when Donatella took her final bow after her Fall 2025 fashion presentation. In March, after nearly three decades of leading the brand, she announced her new role as Versace’s chief brand ambassador, naming Dario Vitale as her successor.

This leadership transition took effect on Tuesday, April 1, lending even greater significance and style to Ortega’s choice to don a complete Donatella Versace Spring 2025 ensemble.
