Jennifer Garner Masters the Art of the ‘Nutcracker French Twist’
Jennifer Garner perfected a Nutcracker hairstyle guided by a professional ballerina.
On Monday, December 22, the 53-year-old actress shared on Instagram a step-by-step tutorial for achieving a flawless Nutcracker French twist, with insights from Tiler Peck, who played the Sugar Plum Fairy in a performance in New York City.
In the video, Peck arranged several bobby pins and a hairbrush on the table as she chatted with Garner. “Are you right-handed?” she inquired, to which Garner replied, “Yes.”
The ballerina guided her to position her left hand at the base of her head to pull her hair into a low ponytail. “Then your right hand will go over — you’ll need some space [to twist your hair],” Peck explained. At 36 years old, she then began to release some hair with her left hand while using her right fingers to twist the strands, securing the “tail” with her left hand to maintain the look.
“Just keep twisting upward,” Peck demonstrated. “Use those pins and grab [some hair from the twist] to pull [the pin] over to the side to secure it.”
Garner inquired if this was “the Balanchine way?” (referring to George Balanchine, who choreographed a well-known version of The Nutcracker for the New York City Ballet).
Peck replied, “I’ve never taught this.” She then observed Garner’s efforts, adjusting the style as needed.
“Now that I can rock my hair like this, I feel like I should probably join the New York City Ballet,” Garner joked. “Fouettés are a big part of my life,” she added, referencing the spins performed by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Peck played along, saying, “You’ll be executing 32 fouettés in no time.”
“From Sugarplum herself. 🧚♀️🩰,” Garner captioned her post, receiving compliments from her celebrity friends and followers in the comments.
Peck remarked, “In this video, we kind of look like sisters 👯♀️ from backyard dancing besties to sugarplum sisters 😂.” One fan commented, “Your hair looks stunning in that style, Jennifer,” while another enthusiastically remarked, “Where has this hair advice been all our lives?!?! ♥️🤯♥️🤯♥️.”
Previously, Garner embraced the holiday season by decorating gingerbread houses. She mixed icing to achieve a vibrant red hue and decorated the gingerbread accordingly, incorporating white icing to sketch windows and doors. She even embellished her barn design with berries and festive ornaments.
Earlier this month, she humorously donned a candy cane outfit alongside Ed Helms while promoting her 2023 film Family Switch, both dressed in matching costumes.
Garner wore a strapless V-neck mini dress featuring vertical red and white stripes, paired with a candy cane headband.
Helms complemented her look with a striped vest, bright red pants, and a candy cane-themed headpiece.
“Let’s go, @edhelms! Happy Holidays, everyone!” she posted. “(Courtesy of Family Switch, spreading holiday joy on @netflix).”
