Jennifer Lawrence’s Response to Emma Stone’s Head-Shaving for Bugonia
Jennifer Lawrence expressed her concern about friend Emma Stone‘s bold hair transformation for her role in Bugonia.
“I truly didn’t want her to shave her head,” the Hunger Games superstar, 34, shared with Vogue in an interview published on Monday, August 11. “I had already experienced the Billie Jean King haircut,” Lawrence remarked, referring to Stone’s portrayal of the tennis icon in the 2017 film, Battle of the Sexes.
While Lawrence had reservations about the radical haircut, Stone felt confident about taking a razor to her hair.
“There’s no better feeling than this,” she said about the shaved look. “The first shower post-head shave? It’s unbelievable.”
Although she loved the look, Stone revealed she shed some tears in her trailer before parting with her long locks. She also mentioned that prior to shaving her head, her mother, Krista Stone, lost her hair during breast cancer treatment.
“She really did something courageous,” Emma reflected. “I’m just shaving my head.”
Interestingly, Krista felt a pang of envy that Emma got to experience a shaved head. “My mom said, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again,’” Emma recalled.
After letting her hair grow out a bit, Emma debuted a pixie cut at the 2025 Golden Globes in January. The look gained significant attention, but Emma admitted she wished her hair was even shorter before revealing the new style. “I was disappointed I wasn’t going all out,” she said. “Just completely bald. I think that would have been exciting.”
Over the years, Stone has transformed her hairstyle multiple times for different movie roles. While her trademark color is copper, she has also sported blonde hair — her natural hue — while playing Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012, and chocolate brown hair in 2024 for her role in Kinds of Kindness.
