Jennifer Love Hewitt is Back for the IKWYDLS Reboot: Here’s What You Need to Know
“It’s never too late to revisit old paths,” Hewitt shared on Instagram in December 2024, revealing that she’ll reprise her role as Julie James in the newly announced reboot of the 1997 classic I Know What You Did Last Summer.
“Julie James is making a comeback,” Hewitt added. “I know what you’ll be doing next summer!”
In May 2024, Sony Pictures confirmed that the reboot of the beloved franchise was officially underway. The horror movie will be helmed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote the script alongside writer Sam Lansky.
Hewitt’s confirmed involvement in the much-anticipated reboot has further heightened fans’ excitement for the film, which reportedly commenced filming in November 2024 and is set to premiere in summer 2025.
“Honestly, I loved working on those films,” Hewitt elaborated to Us Weekly in May 2024. “There’s nothing quite like the thrill of making a horror movie. It’s the best! Julie James is a fantastic character. I believe there’s still more to explore, and I’m ready to do it.”

Apart from Hewitt, the original cast member Freddie Prinze Jr. will also return, while Brandy, who had a role in the 1998 sequel, has mentioned that she’s been in talks with the studio about her potential return.
Hewitt confirmed her involvement more than six months after the reboot was initially announced, alleviating earlier concerns that she might not be included in the project.
“It’s thrilling to see the interest and excitement surrounding it,” Hewitt told Us back in May 2024, noting that both she and Prinze Jr. were in a “waiting phase” as they anticipated confirmation of their involvement.
Joining the cast are newcomers Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Austin Nichols.

On Thanksgiving 2024, Sarah Michelle Gellar — who is married to Prinze Jr. and also starred in the original 1997 film — shared a snapshot from the filming set (although her character met a grim end in the original).
“One would think that with my experience, I’d know the rules about ‘closed sets,’ right?” the actress recounted while appearing on Live With Kelly and Mark. “Since my husband is starring in the film, I took our kids to Australia for Thanksgiving to visit him. While on set, I thought, ‘What a great shot!’ and ended up posting it.”
