Jesy Nelson Opens Up About Emotional Pregnancy Complications
Former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson is currently facing challenges during her pregnancy with twins.
“We are expecting identical twins, which is incredibly exciting,” Nelson, 33, mentioned in a social media video on Wednesday, March 5, alongside her boyfriend of three years, Zion Foster. “However, there are complications associated with having identical twins. The twins we’re having are monochorionic diamniotic [MCDA], which typically means that most twins have two placentas. With monochorionic diamniotic twins, there can be various complications.”
According to Nelson, MCDA twins are often at risk of one “taking all the nutrients” or both experiencing loss in utero.
“At the moment, I am in the pre-stage of TTTS, which stands for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome,” she explained. “I’m being monitored very closely and have to undergo scans twice a week. Unfortunately, the situation is progressively worsening with each visit.”
She shared her feelings, struggling to hold back tears, saying, “We are just hoping and praying for the best. We feel so blessed to be having twins. It’s just very sad that these complications exist that we were unaware of.”
Besides hoping for a positive outcome, Nelson and Foster, 26, are fortunate to have regular medical appointments.
“We’re really thankful that I get to be scanned twice a week to monitor the babies,” she noted. “We want to keep you all updated, and we’ll be sharing our experiences after each scan. We just need to pray that everything turns out well.”
Nelson is also keen to “raise awareness” for other mothers expecting twins who may face similar challenges.
“We were completely unaware that these issues could arise with twins, and we want to educate others since many people don’t know about it,” she emphasized. “It’s important for us to share our journey with everyone.”
Nelson and Foster, who have been together since January 2022, revealed earlier this year that they were expecting twins.
“She’s eating for 3 now 👶👶,” Nelson posted on Instagram on January 12, with a photo of Foster cradling her baby bump.
While Nelson is thrilled about the impending arrival of her twins, she initially had reservations about becoming a parent.
“I don’t want children. It’s just not for me,” she said in a 2021 interview with Glamour UK. “I believe that as a woman, you either feel a desire for motherhood or you don’t. I’ve never had that maternal instinct. Women should do what feels right for them. My mum is my hero; she raised four kids on her own. To me, she is Wonder Woman, but I know it was challenging. There’s never been a moment when I thought, ‘Oh, I really want a baby.’ I’ve been in love and thought, ‘this is the one for me,’ but I still didn’t want a child.”
