Joanna Krupa Discusses Her New Pet Adoption Series and Motherhood (Exclusive)

Model and actress Joanna Krupa is starting a new journey with some charming — and furry — companions.

On October 15, Krupa, 46, shared insights exclusively with Us Weekly about her upcoming pet adoption YouTube series titled Street Rescue. Set to premiere weekly episodes every Friday at 4 p.m. PST starting October 24, this series follows years after Krupa, together with her sister Marta Krupa and friend Gabi Gutierrez, established the Angels for Animals Rescue nonprofit.

“Living in Los Angeles, California, the vetting expenses are sky-high. I joke about it because, if someone asked me if I own any Hermès bags, I could say zero,” Krupa explained to Us. “I could have a sizeable collection of Hermès bags if I truly cared about that, but I don’t. This just shows how much I invest in animal rescue and my own pets.”

Krupa mentioned that the entire series is financed by herself and the producers, as they wanted to ensure both pets and their loving owners were cared for.

“I understand how tough it is for those living paycheck to paycheck, or for low-income and homeless individuals. They have their beloved pets who are their best friends, yet when medical issues arise, they may lack the finances needed,” Krupa expressed. “This leads to thousands of animals in shelters because many families can’t afford the care their pets require when they fall ill, and veterinary bills can be exorbitant. Our goal for this docuseries is to assist low-income families and homeless individuals with their furry companions, providing them with the help they need.”

Krupa is also collaborating with various low-income and volunteer veterinary services.

“We aim to foster a community of animal rescuers throughout California and nationwide that can unite and support one another,” Krupa told Us. “We’re also cross-promoting animals in need of adoption because so many cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters every year. It’s truly overwhelming. With this show, I believe we can save countless lives by advocating for adoption and giving back.”

Alongside her dedication to pet adoption, Krupa is a devoted mother to her daughter, Asha-Leigh, whom she shares with her ex-husband Douglas Nunes. She opened up to Us about being a single parent and the surprises of her nearly 6-year-old daughter.

“She’s like a sponge, absorbing everything. The things that come out of her mouth are just so smart, full of life, and she’s such a joyful child,” Krupa shared. “What means most to me is how much she adores our pets. We have three dogs now. Even when we’re driving and she spots someone asking for money on the street, she says, ‘Mommy, can you please help this person? Can you please give them money?’ She truly has a heart of gold.”

After her split from Nunes in 2023 following four years of marriage, Krupa has expressed regret over not becoming a mother earlier.

“When you’re younger, you don’t realize that there will come an age where it’s not as easy,” Krupa noted to Us. “A model I worked with on my show in Poland, Top Model, just recently had a miscarriage at 28. This underscores that age isn’t everything; however, starting a family at a younger age can be beneficial, allowing you to be more of a best friend to your child. I do regret not starting earlier, but I’m immensely grateful for her.”

Krupa admitted that the “hardest part” is her daughter missing out on having a sibling.

“I have a sister and know how essential it is to have family. It’s not something I’m ready to give up on. I dream of [Asha-Leigh] having a sibling. Meanwhile, I strive to be the best mom I can be, arranging numerous playdates so she always has friends around.”

Jana Kramer’s “trial run” of letting her kids use social media was brief. “Jolie’s been asking about Coverstar for ages,” Kramer, 41, shared during the Monday, April 7, episode of her “Whine Down” podcast, referring to the child-friendly social media platform. “The kids rarely use iPads now, and they hardly watch TV anymore, and she […]

Krupa has been hosting the Polish rendition of America’s Next Top Model — simply Top Model — for 14 seasons.

“I’m the Polish Tyra [Banks],” Krupa joked. “Honestly, that role kept me away from the U.S. market since I’ve genuinely enjoyed being part of that show; it keeps me thoroughly occupied and has opened many doors for different opportunities. I cherish my two worlds — being a notable figure in a small country outside of Los Angeles is special.”

When contemplating her return to the U.S. market with Street Rescue, Krupa wanted to ensure it was a meaningful project aimed at giving back.

“I decided that, if I’m doing something in the U.S., it must be heartfelt, something that my daughter would take pride in,” Krupa explained to Us. “There have been things in my past that don’t fill me with pride, and I’ve had projects I’m not particularly proud of. But over a decade has gone by, and as you grow, especially with kids, life is viewed through a different lens.”

Krupa joined season 2 of The Real Housewives of Miami in 2012, leaving the series the following year. She mentioned to Us that she’s “vaguely” kept in touch with the other Housewives from her season.

“I’ve spoken to Lea [Black] and Karent [Sierra]. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the girls,” she noted. “I believe the last time I saw was Ana [Quincoces]. I don’t keep up with what the others are doing very closely. Occasionally, we’ll message Karent and Ana, but I haven’t seen them recently. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Miami. Regardless, I respect them and wish them all the best.”

While Krupa states that dating isn’t “a priority” for her right now, she’s open to spontaneous and easy connections.

“If I met someone, I’d want it to start as a friendship, making it easy. I don’t want any drama or headaches in my life, nor do I want complications with ex-wives,” Krupa told Us. “For someone to draw my attention away from my daughter and work, it must feel worthwhile, something that excites me, giving me butterflies in my stomach. I’m uncertain if that person exists, but we’ll see. My friends often joke, ‘Joanna, he’s not going to knock on your door.’ I reply, ‘Well, maybe he will,’” Krupa added.

Looking ahead, Krupa hinted at an upcoming project that we can expect to hear from her about in the next few months.

“Having been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, I’m developing my branding and product line,” Krupa revealed to Us. “It’s something I wish I had initiated earlier. I’m ready to leverage what I’ve built and offer an affordable product line without compromising quality, ensuring it feels as premium as high-end items. I’m excited.”
