John Stamos Discusses Whether He’ll Go Full Frontal in Season 2 of Hunting Wives

After joining Netflix’s NSFW series The Hunting Wives, John Stamos discussed his stance on performing full frontal nudity scenes.

During his appearance on the Today show on Friday, December 12, Stamos, 62, shared his wife Caitlin McHugh‘s response to his role in the popular series, saying, “I told my wife I was doing it, and she asked, ‘Are you gonna show your penis?’ I replied, ‘I don’t think so.’ But it’s one of those shows.”

Host Craig Melvin inquired if Stamos had checked his scripts for any nude scenes. However, Stamos admitted he hasn’t read anything related to his character yet before addressing whether potential nudity would be a dealbreaker for him.

“Well, we’ll see,” he responded. Stamos provided a similar answer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, December 10, stating, “Maybe!”

Netflix’s The Hunting Wives is breaking new ground with its sultry sex scenes. Adapted from May Cobb’s novel, the show follows Sophie (Brittany Snow) as she relocates from Boston to an East Texas town, where she becomes captivated by prominent socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman). While some viewers are invested in the murder mystery at the core of the series, The Hunting Wives also delivers ample entertainment through its themes of guns, drinking, and passionate on-screen encounters.

Based on May Cobb‘s novel, The Hunting Wives introduced audiences to Sophie (Brittany Snow), who navigates her new life in an East Texas town and is drawn to socialite Margo (Malin Åkerman). Beyond the central murder plot, the series captivates with its mix of firearms, libations, and steamy onscreen romances.

The eight-part series debuted in July, initially produced for Starz, before Lionsgate Television acquired it, with Netflix securing U.S. streaming rights for a year. Consequently, viewers experienced more risqué content than anticipated.

“[My character] gains power in various ways. Part of her manipulation is sexual in nature, which is how many operate in this world to gain control. She is acutely aware of her power and knows exactly how to wield it,” Åkerman, 47, shared exclusively with Us Weekly upon the show’s launch. “I appreciate that aspect of her character, as it generates controversy and intrigue, making her fun to watch.”

Snow, 39, expressed gratitude for Åkerman’s supportive approach during their intimate scenes.

Many actors, including Theo James and Dakota Johnson, have shared insights into their nude scenes and what the experience of performing full frontal entails. James particularly drew attention during season 2 of The White Lotus, especially in a memorable moment where Harper (Aubrey Plaza) accidentally catches a glimpse of him as Cameron.

“Malin was incredibly attuned to my feelings and the comfort level of the cast during our filming,” Snow mentioned on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast in October. “Being Swedish, she’s more accustomed to nudity, but she also recognizes the importance of looking good and not just being naked for the sake of it. I was more conscious about my own comfort.”

She further added, “She often offered to adjust her positioning to shield me from showcasing certain parts of myself. I found that selfless and considerate.”

According to the official synopsis, season 2 of The Hunting Wives picks up with Sophie and Margo “on the outs.”

“However, old secrets and new foes quickly draw them back together,” the show description reads. “As they engage in their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?”

In addition to Snow and Åkerman, Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier are confirmed to return.

The Hunting Wives is currently streaming on Netflix.
