John Stamos Provides Health Update on Dave Coulier Following Cancer Diagnosis (Exclusive)
John Stamos remains tight-knit with his former Full House co-stars and is pleased to share that his friend Dave Coulier is recovering well after his battle with cancer.
“Dave and I chat frequently,” Stamos, 62, disclosed exclusively to Us Weekly during his cover story interview. “We lost Bob [Saget], and the thought of losing Dave was unbearable, so I’ve been by his side throughout his cancer journey.”
As per Stamos, Coulier, 65, is now “100 percent back to Dave” after his diagnosis with stage III non-Hodgkin lymphoma last year.
“It’s wonderful to see that the treatments have been effective,” the General Hospital alum told Us. “It’s also inspiring to see him discussing his experience to help others facing similar challenges.”
Coulier disclosed his diagnosis in November 2024, following treatment for what he initially thought was an upper respiratory infection, which led to swollen lymph nodes. He underwent several scans when one lymph node enlarged to the size of a golf ball.
“Three days later, my doctors contacted me and said, ‘We wish we had better news, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, B-cell type, and it’s very aggressive,’” he informed People at that time. “I went from having a slight cold to being diagnosed with cancer, and it was quite shocking. This has been a whirlwind journey.”
Five months later, however, Coulier announced he was in remission after a biopsy confirmed he was cancer-free. “Hearing ‘zero’ was one of the few times in my life when it felt like a fantastic number,” he told Parade in March.
Coulier, Stamos, and the late Saget maintained their close friendship after Full House concluded in 1995, and they later reunited in Fuller House, which aired from 2016 to 2020. (Saget passed away in January 2022 at age 65.)
Stamos shared with Us that Saget was “always the glue” for the Full House cast, who maintain a group text that includes Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Scott Weinger, Lori Loughlin, and Andrea Barber. After Saget’s passing, “it took us a while to realize Bob wasn’t on the thread anymore,” Stamos said. “I still can’t fathom that he’s gone. We need to cherish our loved ones while they’re around.”
He added, “Bob never held back on expressing love or pride. He always said good things, and that’s a lesson I’ve taken to heart — tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. You never know what can happen, so it’s essential to appreciate the moment and be with the people you care about.”
Stamos has embraced this philosophy, ensuring he stays connected to his fellow Full House cast members.
“We always support one another whenever possible,” he told Us, mentioning his recent appearance on Sweetin and Barber’s podcast with Loughlin, 61, who is his neighbor. “Lori lives just down the street.”
Initially, when Full House began, Stamos found it overly sentimental — to the point he thought about quitting before it aired — but he now appreciates the positivity the show has spread to countless fans.
“I understand now why Full House continues to resonate. I never grasped it before,” he admitted. “Having a child has made me realize how significant this show is. Sure, some jokes haven’t aged well, and there may be a few too many hugs, but the themes are timeless. They’re needed now more than ever, don’t you think?”
