John Stamos Stands by Dave Coulier During His Cancer Struggle

John Stamos is taking a moment to reflect on his most cherished relationships as one year concludes and another begins.

The star of Full House, 61, shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram on Wednesday, January 1, as he pondered on themes of “love, loss, and growth.”

“Happy New Year!” he started in the extended caption. “With the turn of the calendar, I find myself looking back on a year brimming with love, loss, and transformation. This past year has been one of the most significant in my life, filled with moments of immense gratitude, deep sorrow, and the kind of clarity that arises only when you allow life to unfold as it should.”

Accompanying the caption was a photo of Stamos with his wife Caitlin McHugh, 38, whom he married in 2018, along with their son, Billy, 6.

Caitlin and Billy were among the first mentioned in his reflective Instagram post.

“To Caitlin and Billy—you are my heart. Every morning spent cuddling and laughing with you is a cherished memory I will hold close forever,” Stamos expressed. “You teach me daily that the simplest moments are often the most profound.”

He also acknowledged his Full House co-star, Dave Coulier, who is currently battling cancer, tagging him in both the caption and the accompanying photo.

“@dcoulier you got this!” wrote Stamos, who portrayed Uncle Jesse alongside Coulier’s Uncle Joey in the beloved 90s sitcom.

Coulier, 65, was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in October. This form of cancer impacts the body’s lymphatic system, affecting “white blood cells called lymphocytes [that] grow abnormally and can create tumors throughout the body,” as described by the Mayo Clinic.

Stamos also honored the memory of his childhood friend Mike Owen, who had been his best friend since they were 11. Owen passed away in November from a heart attack.

“To Mike, my oldest and dearest friend, who we lost this year—you will always be my silent Obi-Wan, guiding me with your quiet strength. Your absence has created a void in my life, but I carry your light forward in all that I do,” Stamos shared.

He went on to celebrate his sobriety accomplishments in 2024 and expressed his anticipation for the future.

“This year, I celebrated my sobriety once again, and it’s something I am incredibly proud of. This year symbolizes a fresh start for me, and I am very thankful for the second chances life grants when you choose to embrace it,” he noted. “I look forward to what lies ahead—new projects, new stories to tell, and new opportunities to create and connect. For now, I’m cherishing the stillness, laughter, and love of these moments with my family.”

He concluded his message with, “To everyone reading this: May the new year bring you kindness, courage, and the comfort of knowing that you are precisely where you need to be.”
