JoJo Siwa Breaks Down in Tears Over Chris Hughes’ Hairline Remark
JoJo Siwa is embracing her healing journey, thanks to her boyfriend, Chris Hughes.
The 22-year-old “Karma” singer shared a heartfelt TikTok video on Thursday, July 24, where she broke down in tears after Hughes, 32, praised her hairline. The former Dance Moms star opened up about how her hair has always been a source of insecurity for her.
“As I was drying my hair, he said, ‘You have a really good hairline,’” Siwa recalled through her tears, with Hughes present behind her.
“You do have a good hairline. It’s really nice. I don’t get why it made you laugh,” Hughes comforted her, as a former contestant on Love Island U.K..
“No, it’s making me cry,” Siwa explained. “That was the number one thing I was bullied for as a child, and it has affected me for years. You said it out of nowhere, and it was just really nice.”
Hughes tenderly wiped the tears from Siwa’s face with a tissue, continuing to express his love. “I love your hair,” he said. “You’ve got really good hair.”
In the caption of the video, Siwa discussed how online memes about her hairline had impacted her confidence in the past. She has previously shared her struggles with hair loss due to a stress condition during her time on Dance Moms.
“He didn’t know about the 2017-2020 hairline memes that I’m no longer impacted by, but his random compliment really healed a part of me,” she wrote. “It felt like I had a band-aid covering it for eight years, and he just removed it before I could explain what it was.”
“I feel so lucky, I sometimes don’t even realize how blessed I am 🤍🥺✨,” Siwa added.
She opened up about her hair loss on an episode of Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test in November 2023.
“Everything gets judged,” she stated, gesturing to her head. “People told me I had a receding hairline … they didn’t realize I had a stress rash causing my hair loss. It’s not normal for a 12-year-old to deal with that, but I did.”
Siwa and Hughes became acquainted in April while competing on the U.K. edition of Celebrity Big Brother. After developing a close friendship in the house, their bond blossomed into romance once they left the show.
Since confirming their relationship in June, the couple has continued to grow stronger. Earlier this week, Hughes shared with Us Weekly that they have even contemplated marriage and starting a family.
“We genuinely talk about these things,” Hughes, 32, revealed in an interview published on Wednesday, July 23. “When you’re smitten with someone and in love, it’s enjoyable to think about the future.”
“I absolutely want to get married. I’ve never shied away from that,” he continued. “I aspire to marry and someday have children. We both come from loving and nurturing families… so it would be lovely to carry that forward.”
