Julia Fox Stands by Her Jackie Kennedy Look: “It’s Not a Costume, It’s a Statement”
Julia Fox did not don Jackie Kennedy as a mere costume.
The 35-year-old actress clarified her controversial ensemble after fans expressed their disapproval on Instagram on Friday, October 31. For a Halloween celebration, Fox showcased a striking Jackie Kennedy-inspired outfit from the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Her attire included a pink tweed jacket adorned with gold buttons and a coordinating skirt, both marred by faux blood. She accessorized with a blue scarf, matching handbag, and a pink cap.
Her makeup was as bold as her outfit, featuring blood splatters across her forehead and cheeks.
“I’m embodying Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit—not as a costume, but as a statement,” she captioned her photos. “After her husband’s assassination, she chose to remain in her blood-stained clothes, declaring, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’ The haunting image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood represents one of the most striking juxtapositions in modern history: beauty intertwined with horror, grace shadowed by destruction.”
Fox elaborated: “Her choice to remain in those clothes, despite encouragement to change, was an act of immense bravery. It was performance, protest, and mourning, all in one. A woman using her image and elegance to highlight brutality. This represents trauma, empowerment, and how femininity can be an act of resistance. Long live Jackie O ♥️.”
Supporters in the comments rallied around her, stating, “Okay the caption saved it for me— not everyone has this perspective.” Another remarked, “Love the historical viewpoint you’re providing with the caption,” while a third added, “This carries such a beautiful message 💖.”
The actress’s clarification came after onlookers expressed confusion over her look, revealed at a party on Thursday, October 30.
“Of all the costumes one could wear, of all the moments to emulate, why this one?” questioned one user on X. Another noted, “Some things shouldn’t be turned into costumes, regardless of the artistic intent.” A third commented, “I thought ‘what’s wrong with her costume?’ then I saw the blood, and my jaw dropped.”
Previously, Fox honored another iconic figure while in London. Strolling through the city, she donned a corset featuring a portrait of Princess Diana. Her ensemble also included bows tied on her shoulders and a pleated lace skirt anchored to her leather belt. She finished the look with white boots, a leather purse emblazoned with the UK flag, and adorned her hair with a bow and pearls around her neck.
Fox’s homage to Jackie Kennedy isn’t the first provocative outfit she’s unveiled. Earlier this month, she turned heads in a decorated nude look at the FGI Night of Stars event in New York City.
This ensemble featured a nude base adorned with silver and green leaf-like details, complemented by bold black eyeliner and a clear handbag.
