Kanye West Teams Up with Daughter North for Duet at Concert in Mexico
Kanye West welcomed a special surprise guest during his concert on Friday, January 30, in Mexico City.
The 48-year-old artist showcased many of his greatest hits, and even performed an unreleased song together with his 12-year-old daughter, North, in addition.
“You know, I never left you,” West, dressed in a sleek all-white jumpsuit, sang, as seen in social media videos. “‘Cause every road that leads to heaven is right beside you / so I can say, ‘Hello, my only one.’”
North joined in, harmonizing with her father. She sported a stylish oversized black outfit and wore her long blue hair straight for the performance, later posting a photo of her look on her Instagram Stories without any caption.
North is the eldest child of West and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, with their divorce occurring in 2021. Despite past difficulties, the two have managed to bond over North’s musical interests.
“I’m a really empathetic person. At the end of the day, we’re always family,” Kim, 45, shared on her sister Khloé Kardashian’s “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast earlier this month, discussing their coparenting journey. “I always view it that way, regardless of what’s happening. Sometimes I need to be protective, yet there are moments when I cherish that relationship. I’ve always felt that way.”
She further elaborated, “The musical aspect isn’t my forte, and that’s her connection with her dad. We need to communicate about how North navigates that landscape and all the opportunities that arise, while also respecting his views on parenting.”
Kim and West also have three other children: sons Saint, 10, and Psalm, 6, and daughter Chicago, 8.
As they navigate their lives as co-parents, both Kim and Kanye strive to foster their children’s unique interests.
“[North] is homeschooled, and much of it involves me guiding her through various subjects, particularly things she’s passionate about,” Kim shared on Khloé’s show regarding her firstborn. “She has a strong interest in math, so we work with budgets—going out, collecting items, and doing the math together. She also has a class focused on brand building. It’s something interactive, and when she had aspirations of creating hats and jewelry, we turned that into a course.”
Additionally, North is taking music lessons, which involve visiting a recording studio to write, record, and produce her own music.
“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see her develop,” Kim expressed. “I incorporate her songwriting into her spelling tests. We engage in various enriching experiences at home that challenge her, and I believe people will be impressed by her intelligence and creativity.”
North previously announced in 2024 that she is working on her debut album, Elementary School Dropout.
