Kate Middleton Shares Secrets Behind Her Honey Blonde Transformation

Kate Middleton revealed how she achieved her gorgeous light brown locks.

Actress Su Pollard and the Princess of Wales, aged 43, were spotted chatting backstage at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Thursday, November 20, according to the Daily Mail. Pollard, 76, inquired about Kate’s hair, which gained attention in September for being a few shades lighter than her usual milk chocolate color.

“I love your hair, it looks much lighter,” Pollard reportedly complimented Kate.

The princess responded, “It used to be brown, but it’s lightened up in the sunshine.”

Princess Kate Middleton has returned to her brunette roots. The Princess of Wales stepped out with her husband, Prince William, on Monday, September 8, showcasing her signature brown hair after surprising fans with blonde locks the previous week. The couple visited Sunningdale to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy.

Kate first revealed her blonde hair in August during a family outing in Scotland with Prince William and their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. She was seen through a car window, briefly showcasing her sun-kissed hair.

She later made an appearance at the National History Museum in London, where she showcased her new hairstyle in full.

Her hair was styled with a slight side part, featuring large curls and teased roots for extra volume. Fans speculated on social media whether the royal was wearing a “wig” or had opted for hair extensions.

Kate paired her long, curly locks with a white dress shirt under a textured brown blazer, completing the look with straight pants and a black belt adorned with gold accents. She added a touch of elegance with gold layered necklaces and a statement ring, opting for a soft glam with rosy cheeks, defined eyebrows, and long lashes.

“That’s a wig… she probably lost her hair during cancer treatments,” commented one individual, while another mentioned that her lighter hair made her appear “older.” Other remarks suggested that they preferred her natural brunette look.

Hours later, Princess Diana’s longtime hairstylist, Sam McKnight, defended Kate’s new appearance on Instagram, expressing, “I am shocked, horrified, dismayed, and disgusted by the cruel comments directed at the Princess of Wales today.”

He continued, “A woman’s hair is deeply personal; it represents her confidence and defense. I cannot fathom the lack of empathy in these comments, many of which come from other women attacking a young woman who, due to her marriage and role, must face the public with courage.”

Sam McKnight firmly rejected the negative comments about Princess Kate Middleton’s blonde hair. McKnight, 70, who served as personal hairstylist to the late Princess Diana for seven years, took to Instagram on Thursday, September 4, to support the Princess of Wales after she revealed her honey blonde locks and faced backlash.

The hairstylist noted that he was “sure” Kate would prefer to be away from public scrutiny.

“She has quietly and selflessly represented our nation, showcasing the soft power we still hold. Cancer impacts people uniquely, but it is life-altering for all involved. So, for crying out loud, LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU,” he insisted.

Later in September, Kate decided to revert to her brunette hair.

The princess’ hair transformations followed her announcement of a cancer diagnosis in 2024. After undergoing treatment, including chemotherapy, she reported being in remission by January.
