Kate Moss Reminisces About David Bowie Playfully Teasing Her for Outfit Woes
Kate Moss playfully threw shade at her late friend and idol, David Bowie, affectionately calling him a “bitch” after he teasingly remarked on her struggles to fit into one of his legendary stage outfits years ago.
“I was thrilled because the last time I wore his clothes, they didn’t quite fit as I’d just had a baby, and it was one of my first jobs back,” the 51-year-old model shared with Nick Grimshaw during her appearance on the BBC Radio 6 Music podcast, reminiscing about her return to work following the birth of her daughter, Lila, in 2002.
“When I interviewed [Bowie] for Q [in 2003], he said: ‘So, I hear the clothes didn’t really fit you?’ He was such a bitch! He really had a sharp tongue,” Moss recounted, praising Bowie’s gift of gab.
“But of course, it was fabulous, because that’s what banter is, isn’t it? He had such a knack for it.”
Moss later donned one of Bowie’s iconic Ziggy Stardust tour outfits, created by Kansai Yamamoto, to accept the “Best British Male” award on his behalf at the 2014 BRIT Awards. (Bowie passed away in January 2016 after a battle with liver cancer at the age of 69.)
During her podcast appearance, Moss also reminisced about a cherished final memory with the music legend, sharing a message she recorded for him while singing Mr. Bojangles, holding a sign that read “Happy Birthday DB.”
The model now hosts an eight-part podcast series titled “David Bowie: Changeling,” which delves into his artistic journey between 1970 and 1975. She expressed her excitement about exploring their unique bond.
“When the opportunity arose to explore this extraordinary five-year chapter of Bowie’s life for 6 Music and BBC Sounds, I was thrilled to share the story of such an incredible transformation,” Moss remarked in a statement.
She lovingly added, “This podcast is a genuine celebration of my friend, a true British icon.”
