Kathryn Dennis’ Jail Stay Insights: Meal and Commissary Choices Revealed (Exclusive)
Southern Charm alum Kathryn Dennis had to pause her luxurious lifestyle of caviar and champagne during her 11-day stint in jail due to a DUI conviction this month.
Us Weekly has obtained exclusive details on the meal service and commissary options from the Berkeley County Hill-Finklea Detention Center in South Carolina, where the 34-year-old Dennis began her sentence on October 3.
It’s likely that she missed the dinner on her first night, which featured meat sauce spaghetti, mixed vegetables with a garlic biscuit, and iced yellow cake for dessert, as records indicate she didn’t report to authorities until 6:54 p.m. local time.
However, the next morning, she would have been served her first jail meal, which included grits, biscuits with gravy, and fried potatoes.
Other breakfast options during her time in jail included sausage patties and pancakes, scrambled eggs, and French toast based on the food schedule.
For lunch and dinner, her choices incorporated baked chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese with meat and cornbread, chili with seasoned corn, stroganoff with seasoned green beans, and more.
If Dennis was seeking snacks, the commissary had plenty of offerings.
Notable items from the detention center’s commissary list included a “hot summer sausage” for just over $4, tuna in a pouch for $2.75, Takis for $1.71, Doritos for $1.31, pickles (both hot and regular) for $1.21, and Cheez-Its for $1.
Additionally, there were numerous options available to satisfy her sweet cravings.
The commissary list included tempting treats like chocolate cupcakes, honey buns, and brownies, all under $2. Candy bars like Snickers, Butterfingers, and Twix were also priced just under $3, with Jolly Ranchers being the most expensive sweet at $4.86.
Dennis also had the chance for recreation throughout her nearly two-week stay.
Us acquired Berkeley County Hill-Finklea Detention Center’s inmate handbook, which states that all inmates in good standing receive “at least one (1) hour of out-of-cell time daily” for recreation, along with “at least three (3) hours per week” outdoors, weather permitting.
While in jail, Dennis had options for video calls or in-person visits with well-behaved inmates.
However, visitations had limitations, restricting two visitors at a time for 15 minutes each. All visitation sessions, unless with her attorney, were monitored by officers, according to the handbook.
Us exclusively reported that Dennis was released from jail on Tuesday, October 14, just 11 days into her 30-day sentence.
However, she sought to reduce her jail term after reporting on October 3.
Court documents obtained by Us on October 6 indicated that, despite her sentence, the former reality star requested reconsideration of her 30 days for various reasons.
Dennis faced charges of DUI and transporting an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, resulting from a May 2024 car crash that involved three vehicles.
Officers reported that Dennis exhibited “glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol” at the time of her arrest.
Photos obtained by Us showed at least four miniature Fireball bottles in the former Bravolebrity’s vehicle, with one appearing to be empty.
Initially, Dennis denied consuming alcohol or medication before driving, but she later purportedly admitted to having drinks earlier that day during questioning.
The ex-Southern Charm star faced a lawsuit from Larry Patrick Griffin, one of the crash victims, on August 14, 2024, claiming he suffered “serious” injuries due to her alleged negligence.
Griffin contended that the accident occurred when Dennis’ truck rear-ended another vehicle, which then struck his car.
In the lawsuit, Griffin accused Dennis of being “under the influence and sway of alcohol and/or controlled substances” at the time of the crash.
She has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
Dennis announced her departure from Southern Charm in January 2023 after eight seasons.
She is the mother of two children, daughter Kensington, 11, and son St. Julien Rembert, 9, whom she shares with her ex, Thomas Ravenel.
