Katie Thurston Dazzles in Tinker Bell Costume Amid Breast Cancer Fight
Katie Thurston is adapting to her evolving appearance during her cancer journey.
In an Instagram Story from Sunday, June 15, the 34-year-old Bachelor Nation star shared her approach to managing her “thinning hair,” which includes a fresh hairstyle.
“I meant to style my hair today but just never got around to it,” Thurston, who revealed in February that she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer, told her followers in the video. “I blow dried it … but honestly, I think I’m going to embrace this Tinker Bell style for a while, you know?”
The video displayed her sitting on a couch, playing with her new hairstyle, as a caption explained the inspiration behind it. “I’ve been having trouble styling my hair since the thinning began,” she admitted. “I ordered some clip-in extensions to try out. For now, this messy Tinker Bell bun isn’t too bad.”

A separate Instagram Story also showcased a box of Kisqail, a hormone therapy medication designed “to prevent your cancer from growing and spreading,” sitting on a bench. Thurston captioned the image, “Pack 8.”
The reality star’s honest updates came two weeks after she expressed her desire to share her cancer journey. “I aimed to do weekly updates that are unfiltered and dive into my raw emotions. I just finished my second month of treatment, and if you’re inquiring about the duration of treatment, it’s essentially forever,” she stated in a video posted on Instagram on June 1. “I remain hopeful about future medical advancements. Fingers crossed as a stage 4 gal.”

Her message provided insight into the realities of her treatment, including memory loss and other side effects. “At this point, after two months of my medication, my hair is falling out in unnatural clumps,” she shared in the video. “I’m working through it. I’m also experiencing memory loss, which is fun. When going through customs, the officer asked, ‘Where are you coming from?’ and I just panicked and said, ‘I don’t remember.’”
Just one month after announcing her breast cancer diagnosis, Thurston disclosed that the cancer had metastasized to her liver, elevating it to stage four. This heartbreaking update was shared through an Instagram video one week after her marriage to comedian Jeff Arcuri. (Us Weekly initially reported their wedding news in March.)
“After days of waiting, I found out that my breast cancer has spread to the liver,” the former Bachelorette shared in a March 28 Instagram video. “The spots are fairly small, but it does classify me as stage four.”
Keeping a positive outlook, Thurston added, “I understand that stage four can be intimidating, and it can be. However, since I am triple positive and the liver spots are small and detected early, I feel very hopeful about my prognosis.”
