Kelly Stafford Expresses ‘Relief’ at Matthew Stafford’s Return to the LA Rams
Kelly Stafford was ecstatic that her husband, Matthew Stafford, secured a new deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
“Let’s go! [I’m so] thrilled. Thank goodness,” Kelly, 35, exclaimed during the Friday, March 14, episode of the “Give Them Lala” podcast. “This was exactly what I wanted all along, and it was what my husband wanted too. We didn’t want to leave. He adores the Rams, and we’re just super excited that, one, we’re staying here and, two, it’s all sorted.”
NFL quarterback Matthew, 37, was traded to the Rams in 2021 and signed an updated contract earlier this month to play for the upcoming season.
“Oh, God, the relief I felt was pretty surreal,” Kelly shared with podcast host Lala Kent. “You wake up every morning [and] see new headlines … of what rumors [or] which source claims my husband is getting traded [or whether he’s] staying. I mean, every day there was something new.”
She remarked, “With four girls to think about, I’d say that if we didn’t have those girls, the stress would have been a bit lighter, and I could have been more like, ‘Okay, whatever,’ but having these little ones requires you to plan ahead.”
Kelly and Matthew, who have been married since April 2015, are parents to four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, both 7, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4.
“In these circumstances, planning ahead is pretty much impossible,” Kelly indicated. “This is something that frequently happens in the NFL that most people don’t realize, like, players can get traded suddenly [or] released, and families are forced to relocate immediately—finding schools, activities for their kids, and a place to live close to the facility while also in a good neighborhood.”
With Matthew and the Rams finalizing a favorable one-year contract, Kelly feels “so happy and relieved” that their family will remain in the City of Angels.
“When you hear that news and see how joyful your husband is, you’re like, ‘Let’s go get some drinks [and] celebrate,’” she joked. “I’m ready to unwind because wow!”
Kelly has been Matthew’s biggest fan since their college days — and she still takes pleasure in watching him play on the field.

“It’s really amazing. Watching him play, he transforms into a different person on that football field compared to how I know him,” Kelly commented on the latest episode. “They capture him in the huddle, and I’m like, ‘Wow, this is kind of a turn-on. Super attractive.’ Then, he returns home after being this strong man on the field, only to be so gentle and sweet with our four little girls. It’s truly something special to witness.”
She wrapped up by saying, “I admire him as a football player, but seeing him as a dad to our girls is the ultimate turn-on, which is why he needs to be ‘snipped’.”
