Kelsey Grammer Talks About Raising Seven Kids and Expecting Baby Number Eight with Wife Kayte

Kelsey Grammer shared insights with Us Weekly about parenting seven children with varying ages just before announcing that he and wife Kayte Walsh are expecting their fourth child together.

“It’s been interesting. The age range is from [41] to 8. That’s pretty great,” Grammer, 70, mentioned to Us during a May interview. “The 12-, 10-, and 8-year-olds are the ones I spend every day with, and it’s fantastic.”

The Frasier actor is currently a father of seven. He has Spencer, 41, with ex-wife Doreen Alderman, and Greer, 33, from his relationship with Barrie Buckner. He shares Mason, 23, and Jude, 20, with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Camille Meyer. Additionally, he has Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and James, 8, with his wife of 14 years, Walsh.

Recently, it was reported that Walsh is pregnant with her and Grammer’s fourth child together, marking his eighth overall. The former Cheers star was seen with a visibly pregnant Walsh, 46, in London on Tuesday, June 17.

Before the news of Walsh’s pregnancy, the six-time Emmy winner reflected on how becoming a father of seven — soon to be eight — has significantly shaped his life.

“[My kids] are amazing, and they make my life worthwhile,” he told Us in May. “The love I have in my life today is absolutely breathtaking.”

At the time, Grammer also discussed the traumatic experience of losing a child when Walsh was expecting twins in 2012. In his upcoming memoir, Karen: A Brother Remembers, he expressed that “the greatest pain” he experienced was the decision to abort one of the twins due to severe complications.

Doctors informed the couple at 13 weeks that the male twin’s amniotic sac had ruptured and was beyond repair. Faced with the risk of losing both twins, they made the heart-wrenching decision to abort the male twin to save their daughter’s life. (Their healthy daughter, Faith, was born in February 2012.)

Reflecting on his experiences in May, Grammer shared that the birth of their son Gabriel two years later helped them navigate their grief. “It actually made us stronger in a lot of ways,” he explained to Us. “Kayte went through a lot. We can cry buckets over that day, but we have the blessing of knowing that [our son] Gabriel came [next].”

He also spoke about how his sister Karen’s 1975 murder altered his family dynamics forever. The actor had just returned to Florida when his sister was tragically abducted and killed by Freddie Glenn, Michael Corbett, Larry Dunn, and Eric McLeod as part of a killing spree that took seven lives that summer. (Glenn is serving life imprisonment after being convicted for Karen’s murder and two other homicides. Corbett spent 43 years in prison before passing away in 2019. Dunn was never tried for Karen’s murder but was convicted of lesser charges, cooperating with prosecutors in Glenn’s case. McLeod received a 15 to 20-year sentence for pleading guilty to armed robbery and rape.)
