King Charles III Grins in Tuxedo Despite Ongoing Feud with Prince Harry

King Charles III attended a premiere amidst ongoing tensions with his son, Prince Harry.

At 76, Charles looked elegant in a tuxedo at the world premiere of Ocean With David Attenborough on Tuesday, May 6. During the event held at London’s The Royal Festival Hall, he smiled while posing with David Attenborough.

His appearance followed a significant interview where Harry spoke with BBC News about their strained relationship and the monarch’s cancer diagnosis—a type of cancer Charles received in February 2024.

“I long for reconciliation with my family. There’s no reason to keep fighting,” Harry, 40, stated in the interview aired on Friday, May 2. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much time my father has left.”

The Duke of Sussex claimed that Charles has not communicated with him regarding his ongoing legal issues. (Harry is currently trying to regain the government-funded security that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, lost upon stepping back from royal duties in 2020. He appeared in court in early April to contest a ruling made in 2024, but U.K. Judge Sir Geoffrey Vos dismissed his appeal on Friday.)

“It would be wonderful to reconcile. There have been numerous disagreements within my family,” Harry mentioned, emphasizing that he has “forgiven” them.

Harry expressed that he “cannot envision a scenario” in which he would return to the U.K. with Meghan and their two children—son Archie, 6, and daughter Lilibet, 3.

“I love my country, and I always have, despite what some individuals there have done,” he remarked.

In the wake of Harry’s interview, Charles issued a statement emphasizing the importance of unity. A representative from Buckingham Palace declared on Sunday, May 4, that the royal family “is eagerly anticipating the VE Day events this week.” They will join the nation and those across the Commonwealth and beyond in commemorating and honoring the wartime generation, whose dedication, duty, and service should serve as a lasting example to all and must never be overlooked.

After Harry’s remarks, royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams told Us Weekly that his comments might further deepen the divide with Charles.

“This will likely reinforce the king’s belief that he can’t be trusted. The previous attempts by the Sussexes to capitalize on their royal ties led to the significant rift we see today,” Fitzwilliams noted. “Harry’s comments regarding the monarch’s health are probably not well-received either.”

Royal commentator Christopher Andersen shared similar sentiments. “If Harry genuinely wishes to mend things with his family, his approach seems peculiar,” Andersen remarked to Us, referring to Harry’s recent court battle over U.K. security.

Andersen emphasized that Charles’ primary focus is his health. “If Charles had any intention to connect with Harry—something I haven’t observed in the last two years—there’s certainly no impetus to do so now,” he remarked. “Sadly, I doubt the relationship between the King and Prince Harry will ever be reconciled. Too much bitterness remains, along with burned bridges.”
