Kirsten Storms Looks Back on the ‘Unusual’ Maxie and Lucky Storyline

Kirsten Storms shared her insights on Maxie’s relationship with Lucky Spencer in General Hospital.

“It was strange. I’ve known Greg [Vaughan] since I was around 14 or 15,” Storms, 41, remarked during an interview with Swooon published recently. “Back then, he felt like a grown-up to me. So, it was a unique experience.”

Storms has portrayed Maxie on the soap for the last two decades, having joined General Hospital in 2005. Her storyline with Vaughan, 51, began early in her tenure. Storms admitted that while she found her co-star attractive, the 10-year age difference created some discomfort.

“I always thought Greg was a stunning guy, but that felt a bit odd for me,” she explained. “The storyline was challenging with all the lengths Maxie went to in order to get his attention. It was a wild time, and some questionable choices were made.”

Initially, Maxie had a crush on Lucky but hesitated to act on it. Later, she fell in love with Jesse (Matt Marraccini), an undercover cop who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. Jesse and Lucky were partners on the force.

“Jesse [Matt Marraccini] was the first man Maxie seriously dated,” Storms recalled about her first “adult relationship” on the show. “We were both still figuring things out. Then his character died.”

After Jesse’s passing, Maxie and Lucky tried to support each other through their grief, but their coping mechanisms quickly grew unhealthy. Maxie began partying heavily while Lucky struggled with a painkiller addiction. Upon discovering his issue, Maxie offered him pills in exchange for sex, despite Lucky being married to Elizabeth, portrayed by Rebecca Herbst.

During their affair, Lucky chose to turn his life around and entered rehab in hopes of reconciling with Elizabeth. In a troubling turn, Maxie pretended to be pregnant with Lucky’s child and later faked a miscarriage, although she eventually came clean to him.

Kirsten Storms is taking a short break from General Hospital. Storms, 39, has been playing Maxie Jones on the ABC soap since 2005 and will be temporarily replaced by actress Nicole Paggi. Deadline reported on Thursday, December 28, that Paggi, 40, will step in during Storms’ brief absence, lasting only a few days. […]

Following Maxie’s rocky liaison with Lucky, she went on to have relationships with Cooper (Jason Gerhardt) and Damian (Bradford Anderson). She later shared memorable on-screen moments with her now ex-husband Brandon Barash, who played Johnny.

“I remember being thrilled about a makeout scene with him. We were good friends, and our chemistry was unlike anything else in my life,” Storms reminisced about her time with Barash. “If someone had told me back then that I would have an amazing, kind, and beautiful daughter with him [Harper Rose Barash], I would have thought, ‘No way! Really? Brandon?’ I never anticipated that, and if I’m grateful for anything that came from GH, it’s definitely Harper.”
