Kylie Kelce Offers Candid Postpartum Update Following Baby Finn’s Arrival
Kylie Kelce is shedding light on her journey as a new mom of four and how she’s dealing with the so-called fourth trimester.
“In today’s episode, I’m going to be candid about the fourth trimester, with a particular focus on how challenging it can be to get dressed during this time,” Kelce, 33, shared on the Thursday, June 5, episode of her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast.
Kylie, who welcomed her fourth daughter with husband Jason Kelce in March, characterized the fourth trimester as the 12 weeks “or so” following a baby’s birth, during which a “mom’s body is going through all sorts of crazy stuff.”
“The fourth trimester can distract you, especially when you have other children,” she explained. “It doesn’t give you the chance to think about how awful you might smell, how sweaty you are in a cold house, or how hungry you feel, like you’ve not had a glass of water in forever.”
Kylie mentioned that there are postpartum symptoms that “are rarely discussed,” quipping, “You all made the mistake of giving me a mic, so here we are.”
“When you start breast-feeding again, you remember that when your milk lets down, it can feel like hot, fiery needles to your nipples. Are we allowed to say that? Let’s hope it makes the final cut,” Kylie chuckled. “Regardless of whether you’re breast-feeding or bottle feeding, we’ve learned each other’s cues, which makes it easier to know when she’s hungry, tired, or needs a diaper change. All of these milestones are great for a mom’s mental health.”
Kylie admitted that she’s “typically” had the most hair loss after breast-feeding, often resulting in “spiky baby hairs.”
“I just roll with it. I try not to look at the brush right now because you start brushing and it’s all stuck,” Kylie revealed. “Honestly, one of the most frustrating things after giving birth is trying to get dressed.”
She went on, “It’s a struggle! You try to wear pants thinking, ‘I don’t have a pregnant belly anymore; these should fit.’ But then the zipper won’t even budge! The zipper is like, ‘We’re not friends right now; not happening.’”
Kylie shared that she grants herself “grace” during such times, reminding herself that she just “gave birth.” She mentioned discussing her “struggles” with her doctor, who recommended she allow herself “a year” to feel like herself again and “adjust” to her body.
“So I brought in some bigger jeans and flowy dresses for summer. Because everyone loves a breeze,” she remarked. “And that’s my take on that.”
Kylie and Jason, 37, announced the arrival of their daughter Finn in April, shortly after her birth. (They are also parents to Wyatt, Ellie, and Bennett, welcomed in 2019, 2021, and 2023, respectively.)
