Lala Kent Provides Update on Positive Co-Parenting with Randall Emmett
Vanderpump Rules alum Lala Kent is opening up about her experiences with “baby daddy” Randall Emmett.
“We’ve been navigating challenges for years, but we finally organized everything and settled the custody battle. I’m the stable base for our child, and there’s structure in place,” Kent, 34, shared during her appearance on “The Morning After” podcast on Monday, May 12. “There’s a bedtime routine, while he tends to go with the flow.”
Kent confessed that she “tries to remain calm” around Emmett, 54, but noted that he once took their 4-year-old daughter Ocean on a late-night flight when she had school the next day. (Kent is also the mother of Sosa, 8 months, whom she shares with a sperm donor. Emmett has daughters London, 15, and Rylee, 11, with ex-wife Ambyr Childers.)
“I’m like, ‘Can we just get it together for five minutes?’” Kent remarked. “We’re still on good terms but sometimes I feel I need to vent.”
On Monday’s podcast, Kent stated that — despite the recent situation — she and Emmett have developed an “amicable” coparenting relationship.
“I can reach out and say, ‘She’s misbehaving,’” Kent explained. “‘Listen to your dad when he calls—communication is key, and you can’t play both sides.’”
Kent began dating Emmett in 2015, although they didn’t publicly acknowledge their relationship until 2018 when he proposed. They welcomed daughter Ocean in 2021. Us Weekly confirmed their split in November 2022, and their custody battle over Ocean concluded this past March. (Kent accused Emmett of infidelity with multiple women leading to their breakup, although this has not been substantiated.)
“The custody battle is officially over,” Kent stated during an Amazon Live event at the time. “We’ve concluded it, so that’s my news for the day.”
The Vanderpump Rules alum expressed that this legal struggle has burdened her emotionally but refrained from disclosing specific details of their agreement.
“After more than three years, we’ve finalized an agreement that prioritizes our daughter, Ocean. I’m incredibly grateful for that,” she added. “I’m sure my ex feels the same, and I’m just really pleased that we’ve reached a good place for our child’s sake.”
Monday’s podcast wasn’t the first occasion where Kent shared positive insights into her and Emmett’s coparenting dynamic.
“We’ve reached a point where our common interest is our child, and we want what’s best for her, allowing for constructive conversations,” Kent mentioned during a November 2024 segment on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “It’s not always perfect. I can be quite the ride, ready to take on some rollercoasters. One day we’re great, and the next he annoys me. But in the end, we always return to Ocean and her well-being.”
