Lizzo Opens Up About Her Weight Loss Journey, Showcases Before and After Photos
Lizzo is opening up about her recent weight loss experience, detailing the steps she’s taken to achieve her goals.
The 37-year-old singer shared an “appreciation post” on Thursday, July 3, honoring Flávia Lanini, a lymphatic drainage expert with whom she’s collaborated alongside health and fitness professionals to transform her physique.
“The image on the left shows my first session with Flavia for [a] lymphatic massage, and the right is my latest!” Lizzo wrote, accompanying a before-and-after comparison image on Instagram.
Although the Grammy award winner credits some of her weight loss to Laini’s massages, she emphasized to her followers that the majority is a result of her own efforts. (Lymphatic massages enhance lymphatic fluid circulation in the body, helping to eliminate excess fluid from swollen areas, along with waste and toxins, as explained by Cleveland Clinic.)
“In response to numerous magazines and blogs eager for me to use ozempic — here’s the reality!” Lizzo asserted. “I work really hard, training three times a week, enjoying daily sauna sessions & cardio, reintroducing animal protein into my meals, employing a chef for meal prep, and meticulously tracking what I consume to maintain a calorie deficit while eliminating sugary Starbucks beverages, full-fat sodas, and potato chips.”
She elaborated, “I stopped drinking for a long time… (but I’m back to it now because I’ve earned it!) … I enjoy pickleball, hiking, beach walks, staying active, dancing, and drinking water.”
Lizzo also mentioned, “I detox once a month! Additionally, I seek holistic body treatments, wood therapy, and lymphatic massages.”
Regardless of public perceptions about her health journey, Lizzo concluded, “I’m incredibly happy and proud of my achievements, and no one can take that away from me. 😇.”
Since January 2023, Lizzo has experienced substantial weight loss and has shared her journey with her fans.
“I’ve been quite deliberate, slowly shedding weight,” Lizzo told The New York Times in an April 2024 feature. “I sometimes don’t even notice it, because anyone on a natural weight-loss journey understands that losing weight is often a slow process, and the changes aren’t visible until they actually are. The scale may not reflect much. That said, I’m really proud of my current lifestyle.”
The “About Damn Time” artist added: “I won’t pretend I love my body every single day. The reality is, feelings about your body can change daily. Some days I feel great about my body, while on others, I don’t quite feel as positive.”
As her journey progressed, Lizzo faced accusations of using weight loss medications like Ozempic, which she vehemently denied. “When you finally encounter Ozempic rumors after five months of weight training and maintaining a calorie deficit,” she playfully responded in a September 2024 Instagram post.
In January, Lizzo announced she had reached her “weight release goal” after working towards it since January 2023.
“I haven’t seen this weight since 2014!” she proudly shared on social media, revealing that she had reduced her BMI by 10.5 and body fat by 16 percent.
