Lizzo Responds to Body Shamers After Being Targeted by a ‘Fat Joke’

Lizzo responded to body-shamers brilliantly.

Lizzo, aged 37, took to Instagram on Thursday, December 4, to flaunt her bikini body while silencing critics. “Today I came across a fat joke about me — in 2025 — and it went viral. It was a foolish joke, and they were just mocking me because of my size,” she expressed.

“Let me serve as a reminder to everyone to NEVER allow anyone to shame you for your choices regarding your body,” the singer emphasized. “When you’re big, they talk trash; when you’re small, they talk trash. Your body will never satisfy them because it’s not meant for them. It’s for you.”

Lizzo added, “If I choose to get a BBL, mind your business; if I shed 100lbs, mind your business; if I gain every pound back and more… mind your f***ing business.”

She wrapped up her post by stating, “Anyways… my fabulous self continues to thrive with a paid-off mortgage in your heads, ya’ll bitches. 🥱.”

Lizzo’s celebrity friends and followers rallied in support, uplifting her in the comments section.

“You look absolutely stunning 😍 people don’t want to see anyone succeed these days 🙌,” Trisha Paytas commented. One of her fans remarked, “Right? Also me: damnnnnn she looks amazing! (Always).” Another noted, “Tell em sis! You are gorgeous in every way, inside and out. ❤️‍🔥👏🏾.”

Lizzo’s bikini showcased vibrant yellow triangle cups adorned with black snakeskin patterns. The top featured halter straps and a knot at the center, perfectly matched with coordinating bottoms that boasted high-cut legs and bows tied at her hips.

Lizzo’s post follows her achievement of reaching her “weight release goal” in January.

“I did it,” she captioned a mirror selfie in a red bra and leggings. “Today, when I stepped on the scale, I hit my weight release goal.”

Lizzo shared, “I haven’t seen this number since 2014! Let this serve as a reminder: you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Time for new goals!”

She later disclosed that she had felt “suicidal” at the beginning of her weight-loss journey in November.

“I commenced my weight loss in the fall of 2023. I was in a deep depression. After being the target of harmful scandals, it felt as if the entire world had turned against me. I became acutely suicidal,” she recounted through Substack. “I disconnected from all my loved ones.”

Lizzo is committed to empowering women to embrace and love their bodies just as she does — through body positivity and uplifting anthems. “It definitely comes with time,” Lizzo exclusively told Us Weekly in September 2019. “I wasn’t afforded the chances or privileges to feel like a sex symbol when I […]”

She further explained that she “couldn’t trust anyone” after the 2023 “scandal,” referring to when three of her former backup dancers filed a lawsuit against her for claims including sexual and religious harassment, disability discrimination, and creating a hostile work environment. Lizzo has denied these allegations.

“I noticed that I’d lost some weight during that time, but it wasn’t as substantial as it is now. Because it wasn’t intentional,” she acknowledged. Lizzo also shared that she altered her mindset and began to regard her weight loss as a pound “released” rather than “lost.”
