Lori Loughlin to Rejoin When Calls the Heart Seven Years After Departure
Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart has officially been renewed for its 14th season—marking the highly anticipated return of Lori Loughlin as Abigail Stanton.
On Tuesday, December 2, it was announced that Loughlin, now 61, will feature in six of the upcoming 12 episodes. Hallmark verified that filming is set to commence next year, with the new season set to air in 2027. Returning alongside Loughlin will be Erin Krakow, Kevin McGarry, Jack Wagner, Chris McNally, Pascale Hutton, and Kavan Smith.
“Since the series first premiered in 2014, Abigail Stanton has been a fan favorite cherished by the Hearties,” stated Michelle Vicary, head of programming at Hallmark Media. “At its essence, the Hallmark brand embodies hope, positivity, and connection—central themes found in When Calls the Heart. We believe that season 14 is the perfect moment to continue Abigail’s journey with her return to this beloved series.”
Loughlin’s return to the popular series comes nearly seven years after her last episode aired. The actress gained widespread recognition for her role as Rebecca on ABC’s hit sitcom Full House. Following that, Loughlin delivered memorable performances in Summerland, 90210, When Calls the Heart, and Fuller House.
Loughlin was written off When Calls the Heart in 2019 following the college admissions scandal that led to her serving two months in prison. Prior to the announcement of her return, Krakow, 41, shared with Us Weekly her hopes of reuniting with Loughlin.
“I adore Lori Loughlin and the character she portrayed, Abigail Stanton,” Krakow expressed, adding that Loughlin’s return is “something I’ve been wishing for years. I’m a huge fan and a friend, so I sincerely hope it happens.”
Loughlin had previously made a comeback in acting on Dick Wolf’s Prime Video procedural On Call.
“Roles like this don’t come my way often,” Loughlin told Us in December 2024. “I’ve predominantly been seen as the girl next door throughout my career.”
Loughlin shared her gratitude for her previous roles, but expressed excitement for the chance to step into something new.
“I’m not complaining; I feel very fortunate for my career, but this was a great chance to play a completely different character,” she explained. “I was surprised to receive the offer. My co-star and the director of On Call, Eriq [La Salle], played a key role in bringing me on board. I’m incredibly grateful that Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment agreed to let me join.”
Alongside Loughlin, On Call also featured Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, marking Wolf Entertainment’s first scripted series for streaming. Loughlin’s co-stars expressed enthusiasm about sharing the screen with her in the intense series.
“Lori was phenomenal,” Bellisario, 40, recalled to Us. “She comes in sweet as pie, stunning and gorgeous, but when she transforms into Lieutenant Bishop, she can really pack a punch. Working with her was such a privilege.”
