Love Is Blind Season 9: Blake Anderson Reveals the Reasons Behind His Unexpected Departure

Blake Anderson left season 9 of Love Is Blind prematurely, but he has now shared his reasons for exiting.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the first six episodes of Love Is Blind season 9.

In the initial episodes that launched on Wednesday, October 1, Anna Yuan departed the show without informing her connections, including Blake. Following her exit, Blake stepped away from the pods, expressing to the cameras, “Last night was a little bit of a wake-up call. I love this experiment; it’s been amazing, but I’m not sure it makes sense to continue.”

With his exit now aired on Netflix, Blake is revealing more about his true motivation for leaving before exploring deeper connections.

“I believe everyone in the cast, including myself, entered this experiment aware that the odds were likely against us,” Blake shared with Swoon on Wednesday. He added, “We’ve seen the experiment succeed before, which is why we joined, but we know the chances are slim.”

Reflecting on the likelihood of finding true love, Blake had an epiphany. “You begin dating, having fun, feeling hopeful, thinking, ‘Maybe this will work for me,’” he recalled. “But the tight timeline was always in the back of my mind.”

The reality star admitted, “Sometimes I’m a bit of a practical thinker, and as the experiment progressed, I started calculating in my mind, concluding a proposal probably wasn’t in the cards for me or my connections.”

This realization prompted his departure. “The best decision for me at that moment was to step away from the experiment,” he explained.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday, he noted, “It was clearly communicated that if we’re not heading towards a proposal, we shouldn’t be there. I took that seriously.”

He reflected, “Looking back, would I have considered things differently to see how they might unfold? Yes. But ultimately, I feel I made the right choice for myself.”

While Blake and Anna both left the show simultaneously, fans speculated about a potential connection between them outside the series. Blake clarified to Swoon that his relationship with Anna is purely platonic.

“I’ve connected with both [Anna and Megan Walerius]. They’re both wonderful,” he mentioned when discussing his pod connections. “Overall, the cast has maintained contact with one another. As the premiere approaches, I think people are reconnecting, which is exciting.”

Although Blake stands by his choice to leave the pods, he admitted to EW his discomfort over leaving Megan without closure on their final date. (He didn’t attend the date as he had already exited the show.)

“Hearing how Megan felt abandoned in the pods was not my intention at all. I honestly didn’t think about it that way, and once I realized, I felt terrible, and I’m sure it was much harder for her,” Blake expressed.

Blake added, “I regret that aspect, but in the end, I believe everything happened as it was meant to.”
