Maggie and Cal’s Relationship Timeline in Sullivan’s Crossing: Major Twists Unveiled
Maggie and Cal have navigated numerous highs and lows on Sullivan’s Crossing, but they’re about to confront their greatest challenge yet following a shocking revelation about Maggie’s husband.
Inspired by the book series from Robyn Carr, Sullivan’s Crossing tells the story of neurosurgeon Maggie (Morgan Kohan) as she finds herself in legal trouble and returns to her rural Nova Scotia hometown to reconnect with her estranged father, Sully (Scott Patterson).
This relocation leads Maggie to a serendipitous encounter with Sully’s neighbor, Cal (Chad Michael Murray), who becomes her love interest. Despite their undeniable chemistry, Maggie and Cal must tackle significant hurdles, including a love triangle and unexpected pregnancy, before fate finally aligns in their favor.
As the third season, which aired in 2025, reached its conclusion, Cal and Maggie were gearing up for the next chapter in their relationship. However, things took an unexpected turn when Maggie’s former “summer fling,” Liam (Marcus Rosner), resurfaced and introduced himself as her husband.
“I remember hearing a little bit about Liam early in season 3, but I didn’t know they were married,” Kohan, 31, shared with Swooon in July 2025. “When filming the scene with Lola discussing summer flings, I sensed he would reappear, but I didn’t know when or how. That cliffhanger was so exciting for me to read.”
Kohan recognized that Maggie’s hesitation to fully commit to Cal could stem from her past with Liam.
“I feel like it popped up so last-minute that I didn’t have much time to contemplate it, but it certainly makes sense for her to be more cautious,” she remarked. “However, I’m still unclear about the history, so it will be interesting to see how that unfolds and what Liam truly means by calling himself her husband.”
Kohan concluded: “There’s definitely going to be some important conversations to have [between Maggie and Cal]. Trust will need to be rebuilt, as that’s a significant detail to overlook.”

Season 1
The CW
Initially facing difficulties, Maggie and Cal bonded as she reconnected with her hometown. While Maggie was dating Andrew (Allan Hawco), Cal was quietly mourning the loss of his wife. Misunderstandings and interference from characters like Andrew and Lola (Amalia Williamson) hindered Maggie and Cal from expressing their true feelings.
The first season culminated with Maggie learning she’s pregnant with Andrew’s child.
Season 2

Maggie and Andrew reignited their romance amid her pregnancy, although much of the season continued to hint at her complex relationship with Cal. After Lola intercepted a letter Cal left for Maggie before his departure from Sullivan’s Crossing, Cal explained to Maggie that he had to say a proper goodbye to his late wife before committing to a future with her.
By the end of season 2, Maggie and Cal opted to give their relationship a chance, even though Maggie was still pregnant with Andrew’s child.

The third season promptly established that the restaurant explosion led to Maggie’s miscarriage. Though she remained in a relationship with Cal, they faced challenges as Maggie recovered from her loss. They shared a significant intimate moment that deepened their bond before Cal sought Maggie’s support to mend his relationship with his estranged father.
Just as everything seemed to be falling into place, Cal proposed that Maggie move in with him. Unwilling to rush their relationship, Maggie’s reluctance made Cal question her commitment to a future with him. They resolved this miscommunication and appeared to be on solid ground by the season 3 finale. However, the final scene of the season raised questions about where Cal and Maggie’s relationship was headed, especially with the return of her summer fling, who claimed to be her husband.
