Malin Akerman Discusses Theories Surrounding Her Character’s Wigs in “Hunting Wives”
Hunting Wives star Malin Akerman has heard the buzz about her character’s wigs and is ready to clarify things.
During an appearance on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast on Tuesday, August 19, Akerman, 47, addressed the ongoing “conspiracy theories” about her character Margo Banks’ hair in the Netflix series.
When questioned about why she opted for a wig instead of her natural hair, Akerman shared, “I have a thyroid issue, and my hair quality wasn’t great at the time. I considered dyeing it and adding extensions, but I was worried it would start falling out.” She noted that the styling team determined that a wig would give Margo “really beautiful hair.”
Before filming her character’s first wig, Akerman got a chance to try it on but wasn’t entirely satisfied with the result. “It fits well, but it’s not quite the color or shape we initially discussed,” she mentioned.
“It looked a bit like I’d just walked off the set of Dallas or Dynasty,” the actress joked. “Honestly, it was not great.” After producer Rebecca Cutter saw the initial look, she understood it needed to be adjusted. They eventually discovered “a box of wigs” and began exploring options.
“She said, ‘What about this one?’” Akerman recalled, noting that while the wigs didn’t fit perfectly, the color was more suitable.
While waiting for the perfect wig to be altered, they used the temporary style during filming.
Fans expressed their thoughts on her hair in the series, with many taking to X to share their opinions. “If Hunting Wives gets a season 2, please get Malin Akerman a better wig, good lord,” one user posted, while another remarked, “Was no one on the set of The Hunting Wives concerned about Malin Akerman’s wig?”
When the ideal wig finally arrived, Akerman confirmed that the color was a tad lighter than the previous one, leading to the addition of a scene where Margo lightens her hair while her husband runs for governor.
If the series is renewed for a second season, Akerman mentioned that the team might consider dyeing her hair instead of relying on another wig.
