Mandy Moore Criticizes Hit-and-Run Driver Following Family Incident

Mandy Moore experienced a frightening incident this week when her family’s vehicle was struck from behind by a hit-and-run driver.

The This Is Us star, 41, announced the incident through her Instagram Stories on Friday, August 1, expressing her dismay towards the motorist who fled the scene.

“To the woman who rear-ended my family and then drove off as we pulled over, hope karma finds you,” she conveyed in a now-expired post. “Fortunately, everyone was alright, but what kind of person does that?”

Moore shares her life with Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, and they are parents to three young kids — sons Gus, 4, and Ozzie, 2, and daughter Lou, 10 months — who were reportedly in the vehicle with them.

The family recently returned from a rejuvenating trip to Punta Mita, relishing quality moments on the beaches of Mexico. “Nothing beats a beach vacation with some of your besties (shoutout to @whatsgabycookin),” Moore posted earlier on Friday via Instagram. “What an epic few days, @fspuntamita! We can’t wait to return (Gus hasn’t stopped talking about it)!!”

This getaway was a much-needed break for Moore, who dealt with a challenging year after losing her family’s newly renovated home in the California Eaton Fire in January.

In February, the actress and singer shared an Instagram photo of the devastation, indicating that “the contents of our home are a near total loss” due to its closeness to the fire and surrounding structures.

Although she initially believed that the “main part” of the house had remained intact, it turned out everything needed to be demolished.

“Clothes, furniture, pretty much everything will have to be thrown away… maybe even the walls too,” she mentioned at the time. “We won’t be there for a long time as it, along with the neighborhood, gets sorted and cleaned up for the rebuilding process. I share this because I’m struggling.”

She continued, “It goes without saying that our sweet family and our pets are ALL that matters, and home is wherever we are together… but having a sanctuary and safe space to feel settled really makes a difference too.”

In another post on her Instagram Stories that same Friday, Moore shared a picture of the renovation progress as they work to rebuild their family home.

Moore’s in-laws, which include her brother-in-law and Dawes bandmate, Griffin Goldsmith, along with his then-pregnant wife, Kit Goldsmith, also faced losses of their homes in Altadena. (Kit welcomed their first child only two weeks after the wildfires.)

Mandy also expressed her gratitude for her mother-in-law, Kathy Goldsmith, in a heartfelt birthday tribute via Instagram in July.

“It’s been an incredibly tough year, and my mother-in-law, Kathy, has risen to the occasion in every way. Honestly, I’m not sure how I would have managed without her in the moments since the fire,” Moore shared. “She has faced her own significant loss but has stood by us since the beginning, without missing a beat. I’m heartbroken that our 5-minute walk to her house is no longer possible, but I am so grateful we’ve shared the same roof for the last six months — if there’s any silver lining in all of this, it’s definitely her.”

She continued, “From morning coffee while letting the dogs out to tea after the kids go to bed, discussing our grief, the funny moments from our day, etc…. To her absolutely mastering bath time, mealtime, playtime, and everything in between — including moments like when Gus declared today — ‘I have to GO POOP with Gaga now!’, we couldn’t be luckier that she’s ours and we’re never letting her go. Seriously, she thinks she can move into her new place, but that’s not happening. Ha!”
